Beauty Editors’ Essentials: Touch-down tips
CHANELLE HO Junior Beauty Writer
“Skin normally feels dry and tight in-flight, but if you have especially dehydrated skin like I do, it’s even more important to replenish moisture levels once you’ve landed. I love hydrating face masks for this – the 111Skin Meso Infusion Day Defence Hydration Mask has been specifically created to restore moisture to skin. I use a rose quartz roller to massage the product in, which also has a de-puffing effect. I follow that up with the Ilia Cucumber Water Stick to cool and refresh my skin, before applying a thick Sisley cream. My top tip for post-flight is to get a full body massage: I get fluid retention after long-haul travel so this flushes toxins out of my system, encouraging circulation and helping with lymphatic drainage. If you are at home, try the Sarah Chapman Skinesis Bodylift, which you can roll over legs and arms.”

“After a flight, my skin feels clogged and tight, so I always do a double cleanse when I land. I start with an exfoliating cleanser like the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Pore Perfecting Cleansing Gel and then use a super-gentle one, like Tata Harper’s Refreshing Cleanser, for my second step. Because my skin is so dry post-flight, I use the 111Skin Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask followed by a hyaluronic acid serum – the Dr Nigma Talib Hydrating and Plumping Serum No1 is the best I’ve tried. My hair seems to go limp and lifeless no sooner than I’ve settled in my seat, so I use the Ouai Texturizing Spray to add volume. If your hair goes frizzy or static after a flight, a few sprays of the Oribe Côte d’Azur Hair Refresher is the best for taming flyaways.”

“To get that plumped, glowy, ‘I’ve had eight hours of sleep’ skin (even when you haven’t), you need to lock in hydration, so post-flight moisturizing is key. For deep moisture, I go for a serum like Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair, which is packed full of nourishing antioxidants that tackle dryness, dullness and dehydration in one hit. I follow that with a hydrating sheet mask like the SK-II Facial Treatment Mask; it soothes puffy skin in 20 minutes. I also prioritize exercise when I get off a plane – it’s a brilliant way to combat jet lag, reset and become grounded. But avoid anything super intensive like HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and opt for light stretches, yoga or walking for 20 or 30 minutes. It will get your body moving, mobilize your joints and stretch out stiff muscles.”
