Gucci Westman’s Daily Beauty Regimen, Skincare Secrets And Makeup Hacks
Makeup artist and brand founder GUCCI WESTMAN shares how a less-is-more approach transformed her skin, the beauty devices she swears by and the secret to her famous ‘Gucci glow’ makeup
Before getting up…
…I usually hit snooze for 10 minutes. Depending on who is home, I will maybe hit it twice. When I am feeling like I have to stick with a schedule, I set my alarm. I always meditate for 20 minutes before I get out of bed. I have my home-made, almond-milk latte after I’ve drunk a glass of water, and then I’ll put something cozy on to take my youngest daughter to school. When I get home, I have a bowl of blueberries and a protein shake later on. I just ordered this new protein powder called Mikuna that I am excited about.
I usually rinse my face with water in the morning…
…and then use some products that I am sampling from our brand [Westman Atelier]. I typically use our Skin Activator along with a new product I have been testing out – there are a bunch that I love! I’ve been using Skin Activator for a while now, and it’s completely changed my skin. For the first time in 15 years, I’ve been able to go without foundation – even after taking antibiotics for two months, when I still had breakouts from my rosacea. I used to use a thick moisturizer, thinking it would really hydrate me, but it was more of a superficial hydration. We worked with a scientist in Korea, whose patented system allowed us to use more active ingredients – we have 15 actives in this serum. After my skincare routine, I use neuBROW Brow Enhancing Serum on my eyebrows both morning and night – I am obsessed.
I do the same makeup routine every day
I even out my skin tone with either our Westman Atelier Vital Skin Foundation Stick, Complexion Drops and/or Vital Skincare Concealer, depending on the quality of my skin that day. Sometimes I need less, sometimes more. I have been going big on our newest Sun Tone Bronzing Drops [a liquid bronzer]. I brush them on across my cheeks, nose, forehead and eyes and then I’ll add a bit of Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in Petal and then go back in with concealer. For lips, I’ve been playing around with our new Lip Shape Lip Liners and our Lip Suede Matte Lipsticks. My current favorite combinations are Lip Liner in Mink [an espresso] with our Lip Suede Matte Lipstick in Reine [a peachy nude], or the Lip Liner in Petal and Lip Stick in Rose, Lip Liner and Lipstick in Je Rêve [a blushy nude] and Lip Liner in Mimi [a dark peach] and Lipstick in Minx [a bright pink]. Finally, I use our Face Trace Contour Stick in Biscuit for my cheekbones and nose; and that is my everyday routine!
My husband has given me the best advice
He says that “the process is the reward”. It really helps when you’re feeling frustrated and stuck, whether in business, life, or a relationship, as it’s good to think that these difficulties are just part of the process that ultimately brings the rewards.
My ultimate hero beauty products are…
…Westman Atelier Skin Activator followed by Supreme C. With both of these serums targeting such different needs for my skin, I feel at ease going to sleep knowing that my skin is recovering and work is happening. Skin Activator is so hydrating and calming; and Supreme C is incredible for brightening the skin and dark spots, plumping, and making your skin feel juicy. They’re like little elves in bottles! When I have a breakout, I go to my dermatologist and do a medical-grade red-light treatment but also douse my face in Skin Activator several times. When my skin is dehydrated, I usually drink more water and I will do a 111 Skin Black Diamond Mask at night, again followed by Skin Activator.
I have two phenomenal beauty devices…
I love the TheraBody face products – the new TheraFace Pro [a mix of facial massage, cleansing, LED and microcurrent technology] is insane. The Ya-Man Photo Plus Shiny [which uses LED technology, electrical muscle stimulation and lontophoresis] is also exceptional. I have them both in my kit and use them on myself at least once a week. Also, the TheraBody cooling wand is amazing and I travel with that.
I prep myself before a long flight…
I’ll exercise, have a green juice and drink a lot of water. I always pack electrolytes and various supplements, such as Jet Set, which I take every few hours; plus, my own plane food and my Skin Activator serum – it all helps.
Horseback riding grounds me
We have a horse, ponies, a donkey and a miniature horse. Exercising also helps; I love personal trainer Monique Eastwood and do her Eastwood Fit classes on Zoom. She’s 55 and her body looks incredible; my body has never looked like that, not even when I was a teenager! I also love pilates and hot yoga – and I like walking with my Hyperwear weighted vest. After working out, I always have a hot shower and exfoliate – I also have a cold shower every morning. I use Depology’s Retinol Body Firming Lotion, Salt & Stone Body Wash in Bergamot & Hinoki and currently have been enjoying Primally Pure’s Body Polish.
I do The Clean Program every year
My husband David and I do it each January. It’s based on Dr. Alejandro Junger’s The Clean Program, where you omit nightshade foods (potatoes, tomatoes, pepper, eggplant etc), alcohol, caffeine, carbs and sugar. You have a shake in the morning and another in the evening, and snacks such as an apple and almonds when you are hungry. For lunch, you have vegetables and a protein but, as a vegetarian, I focus on beans and vegetables. We also do the ProLon 5-Day Fast Mimicking Diet a couple of times a year. It was designed by a doctor to reset your organ health and support the metabolism. For me, it’s about consistency, whether it’s exercising or eating. I don’t eat very much sugar and I have one coffee a day with homemade almond milk. I pretty much follow the 80/20 rule, although I may be more 90/10.
My best beauty tip is…
…less is more, especially in terms of foundation. It’s more modern to wear less. I always suggest using less than you would typically use if you’re having skin issues, and to use Skin Activator, a red light and a gentle cleanser when you need it instead. That is definitely helpful.
For a big event…
…I make sure my roots are done by Lionel at David Mallett and that I have a blow-dry with Diana Bottino the day before. I might go to Dr. Belkin in Manhattan to see what magic he can do for me. A facial is always a nice bonus. Depending on where I am, I’ll see Georgia Louise or Keren Bartov, or, locally, Nicole Caroline in Greenwich, Connecticut.
If I’m tired but wired…
…a hot bath helps. I love the Juna Nightcap Sleep Gummies – I swear by those – and Lagoon Night Bites – both just different blends of magnesium in different formats. Also, I drink Night Night Extra tea. I have so many sleeping remedies, it’s crazy. If I am out late, I can't go to bed right away.
