Candice Swanepoel’s Everyday Beauty And Wellness Routine

I love waking up before my alarm

Thankfully, that happens most mornings. Having those few quiet minutes before the day begins makes such a difference. Whether I’m getting ready for work or getting my boys ready for school, I like easing into the morning instead of rushing. The first thing I do is make a really good, strong coffee. Then I shower and do a simple skincare routine. I don’t believe mornings need to be complicated – just consistent. I cleanse, tone, apply a serum, moisturize, and, if I’m going outside, sunscreen is non-negotiable.

I never layer dozens of products

Keeping my skincare simple and being consistent is much more important to me. I’ve been using the same tea tree oil cleanser for almost 20 years because my skin tends to be oily, and it’s one of the few cleansers that leaves my skin feeling really clean without drying it out. After cleansing, I’ll use either a toner or a facial mist to leave my skin slightly damp before applying a serum. I usually rotate between a vitamin C serum, iS Clinical’s Hydra-Cool Serum and Christine Chin’s Daily Renewal Serum, depending on what my skin needs that day. Then, I’ll finish with a hydrating moisturizer, eye cream and Augustinus Bader’s The Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50.

I’m much more protective of my skin in my mid-thirties than I was in my twenties

The biggest change has been being really diligent about sunscreen and avoiding direct sun on my face whenever I can. Regular facials have also made a huge difference over the years, and I swear by microdermabrasion. It keeps my skin feeling really smooth and helps remove dead skin cells. I also have a facial laser treatment once a year to support collagen production, and I use retinol a few nights a week. As I’ve gotten older, it has become less about trying to look younger and more about keeping my skin healthy and resilient for years to come.

I love using a gua sha…

…especially after a long flight or when I wake up feeling puffy. If I have a little extra time in the morning, I’ll use an ice roller, too. They’re small things, but they really help my skin to look fresher and more awake.

If my skin is dehydrated…

…I’ll usually use a sheet mask or a rich moisturizer. I love Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream, especially after long flights or too much time in the sun. My favorite sheet mask is 111Skin’s Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask; I’ll often pair it with Rhode’s Peptide Eye Prep Patches. It’s an easy way to bring my skin back to life.

If I get a spot…

…I’ll very carefully extract it with a sterile lancet. I know that’s not for everyone, but it’s something I’ve learned to do properly over the years. Afterwards, I’ll use a high-frequency wand to help calm the area and keep everything feeling balanced. It’s one of those beauty tools I’ve had for years and still reach for whenever I need it.

I’ve always loved makeup that still looks like skin

I want everything to feel fresh and natural rather than overly done. I’ll usually wear a sheer foundation or skin tint, then a little concealer where I need it. After that, it’s cream blush, a touch of bronzer, curled lashes, brushed-up brows and a natural lip liner with lip balm. I love Hourglass’s complexion products because they give such a beautiful, luminous finish without looking heavy. I’m also always reaching for my Rhode Pocket Blush in Spicy Marg and Rhode Pocket Bronze in Pebble. For lips, I love YSL Beauty because the formulas feel effortless. I’ll finish with a little powder through my T-zone and One/Size’s On ’Til Dawn Setting Spray, so that everything stays fresh throughout the day.

Growing up on a farm shaped my approach to beauty and wellness

Nature was always my reference point, and it taught me from a young age that taking care of yourself doesn’t have to be complicated. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve also learned how much gut health affects the way I feel and the way my skin looks. Life is much busier now than it used to be, but I always find myself coming back to the basics – eating nourishing food, spending time outdoors whenever I can and keeping my routines simple. That’s when I feel my best.

For my go-to party look…

…I still like my makeup to look very natural, with defined lashes, a beautiful lip and glowy, healthy-looking skin, using the Patrick Ta Major Glow Balm. My hair usually depends on the weather. If it’s humid, I’ll wear it in a sleek bun, but otherwise I love a soft, effortless blowout. Fashion-wise, I’ll almost always reach for a slip dress. It’s timeless, feminine and can be dressed up or down depending on the accessories.

I used to watch my mother get ready

We never talked about beauty routines, but I remember seeing her getting ready for dinners with my dad, putting on her makeup, perfume and pearls, and there was something so elegant about the ritual. She taught me, without saying it, that elegance never goes out of style, and that there’s something incredibly beautiful about aging naturally and gracefully.

My evening routine is similar to my morning routine

I always start by thoroughly cleansing my skin, then I’ll apply my serums and a hydrating moisturizer. A few nights a week I’ll use a retinol; on other nights, I’ll reach for Medicube’s Zero Pore Pads 2.0 for gentle exfoliation. If I’ve been traveling or my skin is feeling tired, I love using Skyn Iceland’s Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gel patches before finishing with my eye cream.

I like to make a little ritual out of my bath…

…because I don’t take baths very often. I’ll light candles, put on music, sometimes pour a glass of wine, and add herbs or bath salts. It’s my way of slowing down and letting go of the day. In the shower, I love giving my skin a really good exfoliation then applying a nourishing body oil while my skin is still damp. Lately, I’ve been reaching for Palmer’s Cocoa Butter because it’s simple and hydrating.

My hair colorist, Jacob, is indispensable

We’re basically in a long-distance relationship at this point! My hair grows so quickly that I’m constantly touching up my color, so keeping it hydrated is really important. Lately, I’ve been loving Oribe and Kérastase’s hydrating shampoos, conditioners and leave-in treatments. I also never travel without a lightweight hair oil and my Olaplex leave-in treatment. They help keep my hair soft and healthy, even with all the styling.

I’ve always loved the balance of Pilates and weight training

Pilates makes me feel strong, connected and more in tune with my body, while weight training gives me a different kind of strength. I don’t follow a strict formula; I just try to listen to my body and do what feels right that day.

Designing swimwear has given me a deeper appreciation for the female body

Every Tropic of C collection begins with the body – how it moves, how fabric catches the light and how a woman feels when she wears something. Beauty isn’t just about your face; it’s confidence, the way you carry yourself, healthy skin, and feeling comfortable in your own body. That’s been at the heart of everything we’ve created with Tropic of C.

Jet lag has become much harder to deal with as I’ve gotten older

I used to be able to land anywhere and adjust almost immediately, but that’s definitely not the case anymore. Now I try to get onto the local time as quickly as I can. I drink plenty of water, herbal tea and electrolytes, and I really try to avoid napping, even when I’m exhausted. I wish I had a magic trick, but I don’t. Sometimes you just have to push through for a day or two and trust that your body will catch up.

Reading helps me get to sleep

I also love writing and taking a hot shower. Taking magnesium supplements has become part of my routine too. I’ve learned that I sleep so much better when I slow everything down before bed. I don’t have a strict routine, but I always try to create a quiet moment at the end of the day. It helps me switch off and wake up feeling much more rested.

Being home grounds me more than anything

I love cooking a simple meal with a glass of wine and music playing in the background. Long conversations with the people I love always fill my cup, and taking a nap feels like such a luxury these days. Honestly, even something as simple as driving alone with good music can completely reset my mood. It’s those quiet, everyday moments that help me feel most like myself.
