Proenza Schouler’s FW22 Collection Brings Both Polish and Playfulness To Our Closets
The masters of elegance with a modern edge, creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez are delivering divine dresses, directional outerwear and sleek handbags that are guaranteed to define every look this season
After almost two decades in business, Proenza Schouler is firmly established as one of the leading New York fashion houses. At its helm are designers and co-founders Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. The duo’s inimitable and instantly recognizable aesthetic draws inspiration from modern art and youth culture, which plays out on custom-developed fabrics with artisanal attention to detail. “We are interested in designing a complete, contemporary wardrobe for the intelligent, adult, urban woman of today,” they say.
In the intervening years, the founders have also launched a secondary line, Proenza Schouler White Label, which was unveiled in 2017 and fast became a coveted diffusion range that delivers a more accessible version of the brand’s ultra-luxe runway looks. “A more casual lifestyle has always been true to who we are as individuals and [it’s also] true of many women in our lives,” McCollough and Hernandez say of their offshoot offering. Indeed, the label is now known for taking classic silhouettes and enlivening them with bold prints and evocative colors, providing a fresh spin on closet staples.

For fall/winter 2022, Proenza Schouler puts forward a sophisticated, sensual collection, offering particular focus on eveningwear. Vivid colors and strong silhouettes are also signatures, with everyday shapes manipulated into directional looks and injected with ultra-saturated shades. Our standout piece? A bold purple shirt dress. Boasting a powerful pigment and flattering, fluid shape, it’s a closet staple reimagined for a contemporary audience. Other bright, brilliant pieces include a sun-yellow maxi dress with strategically placed ruching to frame and complement the body, plus a velvet maxi guaranteed to add drama to your black-tie events thanks to flared sleeves, high neckline and slinky silhouette.
Meanwhile, Proenza Schouler White Label is awash with versatile day dresses. Think stretch-jersey tie-dyed styles and poppy-red ruched numbers ideal for day-to-night dressing – just pair with sneakers or slim stilettos accordingly. Stylish outerwear is considered too, with polished cocoa-colored tailored coats and playful faux-fur jackets hitting all the right notes.
As for the all-important finishing touches, while the brand may be best known for its cult ‘PS1’ satchel, there is also plenty of exciting newness in the shape of scrunched drawstring pouches, smooth leather camera bags and roomy shoulder bags in classic black, off-white, rich chocolate and dark green.
