Pastel play

Pastels took on a sophisticated new mood this season, with Bottega Veneta, Jil Sander and Marni embracing soft, powdery hues that were either worn from top-to-toe or as subtle accents. At Bottega Veneta, Louise Trotter broke up a largely monochrome collection with hits of vibrant color, including three outstanding pastel looks that stole the show. Jil Sander took a similar approach, presenting a series of puffball dresses in sky blue, lemon and marshmallow pink that could also be seen across shirts and pencil skirts, as well as tights, bags and shoes. For her sophomore collection at Marni, Meryll Rogge explored ’60s space-age silhouettes in a cool-toned palette mixed with bursts of bright orange and red. An ice-blue shift dress embellished with flower-shaped beads and sequins was a particular highlight.

Wear now: Pair Liberowe’s lemon-yellow ‘Alef’ jacket with black tailored pants and Bottega Veneta’s sage-green ‘Andiamo’ tote, or style Colleen Allen’s exquisite lilac gown with white and cream accessories for evening events.

Tweed with a twist

Tweed transcended its heritage roots on the Milan runways, with Dolce&Gabbana, Etro and Gucci all giving the fabric a contemporary spin. At Dolce&Gabbana, a boxy pink tweed jacket was traced with leopard-print faux-fur trims for a punkish edge, while checked tweed twinsets were given the boho treatment at Etro, arriving in fluid, unstructured silhouettes styled with bralettes and layered necklaces. Elsewhere at Gucci, Demna also presented a single tweed twinset that surprisingly felt the most quintessential (it was even styled with a pussy bow and pearls), but the shrunken fit and overall mood of the show prevented it from feeling too prim.

Wear now: Capitalize on the trend now with Gucci’s pink and yellow tweed skirt suit, styling yours with a logo tee for more of a laid-back feel, or style Saint Laurent’s checked wool-blend tweed jacket as a mini dress with heels.

Summer texture

Artisanal textures, from summery crochets to delicate broderie anglaise, were seen across several collections. Louise Trotter doubled down on Bottega Veneta’s crafting heritage with layers of fringing, appliqué and intricate Venetian knitting techniques adding lightness and movement to tailoring, skirts and dresses. Elsewhere, Missoni’s nomadic-themed collection included fresh interpretations of its founders’ original chevron knits that appeared flecked and frayed with sequins and glittering threads, while at Etro, beaded tassels, intricate crochets and lace underscored free-spirited bohemian silhouettes. Dolce&Gabbana, meanwhile, took a more maximalist approach, pairing traditional Italian lace tops and dresses with heavily embellished denim and signature ’50s-inspired black underwear.

Wear now: Zimmermann’s crocheted ‘Indra’ skirt will add texture to crisp office tailoring, while Escvdo’s fringed ‘Amada’ tank is a chic way to elevate off-duty denim.
