The best new beauty buys to try now
The latest, greatest products worth investing in – tried and tested by PORTER’s beauty desk
The next-level lip
There are two types of people in the world – those who loathe wearing a red lipstick and those who love nothing more than adding a bold slick of scarlet to pull together a look or to add some glamour. I’m firmly with the latter and have recently been gravitating to lipstick that is more shimmery than matte. My newest obsession is Chantecaille Limited Edition Lip Cristal in Tourmaline; a hyper-sparkly bullet that leaves an ultra-pretty metallic finish. Danielle Fox
The Hollywood cult cream
When a product comes to our attention through word of mouth, and when that mouth belongs to actress Diane Kruger, our interest is piqued. The brainchild of Professor Augustinus Bader, one of the world’s leading stem cell scientists, the now-cult The Cream promises a lot and really does deliver – it’s fast-absorbing and rich but weightless. After only two weeks, I’ve noticed a big difference in my skin tone and hydration levels. DF
The breakout-skin transformer
Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs) are ideal for acne-prone skin as they reduce inflammation and troublesome bacteria; I know this because a few years ago BHAs transformed my skin. Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid is a new favorite because it’s gentle enough to use every day and keeps acne-causing bacteria to a minimum. Just douse a cotton round in the liquid and swipe over cleansed skin. Suzanne Scott
All-out glamour in a box
Charlotte Tilbury knows a thing or two about red-carpet glam and her latest After Hours Look equips you with everything you need to get event-ready with minimal fuss. The kit includes the best-selling Filmstar Bronze & Glow, metallic Starlight shadows, Pillow Talk liner lipstick and Bedroom black kohl – all the essentials you need to outlast even the after-after-party. The essential skincare step
I’m reluctant to recommend an additional skincare step, but I do think there is good cause to use an essence, particularly if you live or work in a city with poor air quality. Essences hydrate, balance pH and shore up your skin’s defenses against the environment, which when combined helps to hold-back early signs of aging. Natura Bissé Diamond Cocoon Hydrating Essence does all this and more – it also protects against free radicals and helps to smooth out and minimize the appearance of pores. SS
The best oil for textured hair
Curly and Afro hair can often be brittle, making it more prone to breakage and frizz. Manketti Hair Oil, from award-winning hairstylist Charlotte Mensah, is a real game changer for this texture because it adds shine, moisturizes and smooths. Use it as a styling aid by applying it through wet or dry hair (the more dehydrated your hair, the more oil it will soak up), or slather it on from scalp to ends as an intensive pre-shampoo treatment. Fragrance layering
Jo Malone London’s body creams have stood the test of time thanks to their decadent texture and beguiling scents. The Myrrh & Tonka Body Crème has quickly become a firm favorite for me. Myrrh and tonka may seem like an unconventional duo, but they make for a heady yet light scent that lingers on the skin all day long. DF
