The Beauty Essentials The NET-A-PORTER Team Always Takes On Vacation
From the best sun protectors and vital skin hydrators to cult-favorite glow-enhancers and frizz-fighting hair heroes, here are the beauty must-haves Team NET-A-PORTER never travels without

“I’m always drawn to deeply hydrating products, as that’s exactly what my skin needs to look its best. When heading somewhere much hotter, I upgrade my usual beauty lineup to include a few ultra-protective, sun-friendly favorites that can handle the extra heat, too. For total defense against UV rays, I love Shiseido’s Expert Sun Protector Lotion SPF 50+. It feels super silky and completely weightless on my skin, while offering reliable protection. Since re-applying SPF during long days in the sun is essential, I always pack ZO Skin Health’s Sunscreen + Powder Broad-Spectrum SPF 30 for top-ups – and especially for city breaks, when I want a more matte skin finish. The powder formula sweeps on easily using the built-in brush and comes in a purse-friendly tube, leaving me zero excuses for skipping touch-ups. For my hair, I always make sure to pack a nourishing treatment like Oribe’s Gold Lust Repair Restore Conditioner, which delivers lots of moisture and is just what my parched strands need to recover after a day spent dipping in and out of the pool or salty Mediterranean sea.”

“When traveling, my tendency is to take all my can’t-live-withouts with me. But, over the years, I’ve learned to whittle them down to a select few items that can truly multi-task and work for day, night, beach or bar. As someone with very sensitive skin, my first port of call (after Dr Sam's Flawless Gossamer Tint SPF 50) is a serum that works for everyday use, but also as a skin SOS for sun, sand and heat overload. MZ Skin’s Calming Rescue Serum is the winner here. It hydrates, soothes, protects against free radicals and visibly reduces redness (I add a few more layers when using as a post-sun salve). Next, a good face mist, like Bob Beauté’s The Skin Booster, works under and over makeup – it’s great for refreshing skin while on the airplane, as well as hydrating top-ups when sightseeing or sunbathing. A newer addition to my travel kit is Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Glow Cream – it’s your glow drops and hyaluronic-acid serum in one, for instantly plumped-up skin with natural-looking radiance. For even more luminosity, a slick of Westman Atelier’s Lit Up Highlight Stick in Nectar (a golden peach) on the tops of my cheekbones, the center of my eyelids and even on lips, paired with two generous coats of Guerlain’s Mad Eyes Mascara, is my go-to hot-weather daytime look – while Victoria Beckham Beauty’s Posh Gloss (I love Bungalow, a soft pink) delivers an instant hit of glam in the evening. Finally, Oribe’s Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil is equally part daily essential (use a few drops on dry hair), part protecting treatment (I slick it all over, from root to tips, before a pool or salt-water dip.) Save for the face mist, which I keep with me when traveling, everything goes in Anya Hindmarch’s transparent ‘Double Decker’ cosmetics case for easy, visible access.

“I keep my skincare routine truly minimalist when traveling. I mainly rely on Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream because it’s the ultimate multi-tasking essential. It works brilliantly as an overnight recovery treatment, repairing my barrier and deeply nourishing sun-parched skin (even though I try to avoid intense sun). Plus, it’s great for replacing moisture stripped by air conditioning, chlorine and saltwater. Beyond nourishment, I find it also reduces any redness or heat in my complexion, and while it feels rich and creamy when I slather it on, it sinks in beautifully to create a flawless base beneath my favorite SPF: La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios UVMune 400 Hydrating Cream SPF50+ – another vacation (and year-round) staple that provides ultra-lightweight, non-greasy protection.”

“In the last couple of years, I’ve had to travel quite a lot, so I have my pre-travel routine down to an art. Two days before, I’ll do a body scrub – I like Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Resurfacing Body Scrub – paying most attention to knees, ankles and elbows. Then, once my skin is calm, I use Coco & Eve’s self-tan. I enjoy a nice glow in the summertime, and I hate arriving to a sunny destination looking pale, plus I’m incredibly wary of sun-ageing and the potential for skin damage, so I’m a big advocate of artificial tan, but I always seek out brands that mainline clean ingredients. If I’m going to spread it all over my body, I don’t want it to contain too many harsh chemicals. Coco & Eve is cruelty-free, vegan and uses mostly naturally derived ingredients, plus the color is fab. The night before I leave for a trip, I’ll deep cleanse my hair, use a mask to lock in a bit of moisture before the sun can get to it (like Gisou’s Honey Gloss Ceramide Therapy) and then, I’m almost embarrassed to say, I’m another complete disciple of the Colour Wow Dream Coat Supernatural Spray, to keep it smooth for the rest of the vacation. If it works, it works.”

“As someone who gets slightly overwhelmed choosing beauty products, I tend to keep my summer skincare routine relatively simple. My skin is quite dry, so after cleansing and toning, I always use hyaluronic acid for a dose of deep hydration. I’ve recently discovered the wonders of peptides (late to the party, I know) and now use them religiously to help boost collagen production and brighten my complexion. I’m obsessed with Medik8’s Liquid Peptides serum, which tackles fine lines, dullness and dryness in one fell swoop. I don’t like to use anything too heavy on my skin, especially in warmer weather, so I opt for gel moisturizers (Tatcha’s The Water Cream is brilliant) over thicker creams during the day, followed by a broad-spectrum SPF50, always. As for makeup, I love to use a stick foundation in summer (Merit’s The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick is a current favorite), as it’s light, buildable and easy to pop into my carry-on when traveling.”
