With the holidays just around the corner, it’s impossible not to wonder what party season will look like this year. It goes without saying that large events and gatherings are off the menu for the foreseeable, meaning that this season’s celebrations will be of a much more intimate variety, requiring a delicate recalibration of your usual festive look. Of course, we’d never suggest you deny yourself the joy of dressing up, especially at a time when so many of us could do with a few more reasons to be cheerful. Instead, it’s about sourcing truly special pieces that feel appropriate for this ‘new normal’.

For senior fashion assistant Kristen Neillie, this season’s perfect party piece should be effortlessly elegant and versatile, which is why she’s eyeing up Dodo Bar Or’s understated olive-green-colored dress. “After months spent working from home, this silky piece is getting me excited to dress up again – and just in time for Christmas. I love the side slits and how the waist-cinching gold-buckle belt creates an hourglass silhouette. You could style it a number of ways – paired with lug-soled boots, it makes for an elegant daytime look – but I plan to wear mine with chunky gold earrings and sheer or fishnet tights so it feels both celebratory and sexy.”

If you’re on the hunt for a similarly chic after-dark ensemble, stylish separates make for a nonchalant look and promise ultimate style mileage. For minimalists, Petar Petrov’s perfectly cut wide-leg pants are a statement in and of themselves. Let the clean lines set the tone for the rest of your outfit and pair with Theory’s asymmetric sweater. Better yet, this combination comes with the added benefit of being work-appropriate. If going straight out from the office, simply slip on Gianvito Rossi’s heeled thong sandals, finishing your look with Laura Lombardi’s chunky chain bracelet and Oroton’s modern take on the baguette bag, for a decidedly cool take on party dressing.

The holidays aren’t just about parties, however – gift lists are also being dreamt up right now. Personally, we can’t imagine a fashion fan out there who wouldn’t love to find Bottega Veneta’s super-sized ‘Jodie’ bag under their tree.
