The Best Lightweight Makeup For Hot Summer Months

Makeup has a lot to contend with in the heat: warm skin, enlarged pores, sweat, sunscreen – but these products will go the distance, says SUZANNE SCOTT

Rose Inc SoftLight Luminous Hydrating Concealer

Foundation has a hard time adhering to hot skin; it moves and invariably settles in dry patches and pores. So, swap your foundation for a concealer – the right one will even out your skin tone, minimize redness and cover any imperfections without depositing a lot of pigment. This creamy, vitamin E-rich concealer is a favorite for the summer months because it hydrates skin and is easy to blend with just a finger. It’s also super-lightweight, so you can either wear it sparingly to disguise dark circles or build it up to a fuller coverage where needed.

Wander Beauty Wander Cushion Sponge

As TikTok makeup hacks go, this one is excellent: the next time you go to use a makeup sponge, freeze it first. Applying your makeup – whether it’s foundation or concealer – with a frozen sponge creates the dewiest (not shiny) flawless finish, reduces the appearance of pores and cools over-warm skin. Just remember to dampen it before freezing. We like to use the Wander Cushion Sponge, with its combination of flat and curved surfaces that fit into every nook and cranny of the face.

La Mer The Radiant SkinTint Broad Spectrum SPF30

This tinted moisturizer is your hydrator, coverage and UV protection in one. It’s super-light on the skin, so it’s comfortable to wear even in the most humid of environments, and the formula contains the brand’s famed Miracle Broth, too – a potent ferment that protects pores. Also good: its sheer but buildable blend means you shouldn’t need to wear concealer.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip & Cheek Glow

Lipstick can bleed into the fine lines around your mouth when the weather heats up, which is why we love this clever two-in-one cream. It contains vitamin E to counteract the drying effects of UV, and it couldn’t be easier to apply: just pat the balm onto the center of your lips and above the apples of your cheeks for a long-wearing, low-maintenance hint of color. We love to press a tiny amount onto the center of the eyelids, too.

Huda Beauty Legit Lashes Waterproof Mascara Topcoat

This is such a clever product to carry in your makeup bag, because it transforms every mascara into a waterproof formula without adding extra weight to your lashes. Apply your usual mascara to top and bottom lashes, allow it to dry for a moment, then coat the hairs in this clear, jelly-like formula.

Supergoop! Glowscreen SPF30

While this is technically skincare, not makeup, we have come to love this high-factor SPF for evening out redness and bringing about a glow. The effect is very soft and pretty, and unless you have noticeable breakouts, it provides enough coverage to wear on its own.

Nubyen Restore Me Photoactive Elevator Brow Pomade

Even on no-makeup days, we want our brows to look full and polished. This pomade has become our hot-weather go-to because it locks each hair into position all day long, no matter how warm your skin becomes, or if you sweat. Less is more here, as it’s very pigmented – just the barest touch of product buffed through your brows with the angled brush is all that’s needed.
