The New-Season Chloé Pieces At The Top Of Our Wish List
As the indefatigable Gabriela Hearst launches her second season of crafted, bohemian-infused wardrobe must-haves for iconic maison Chloé, we discover the pieces making the NET-A-PORTER team’s hearts beat that little bit faster…
Since taking the helm at Chloé, Gabriela Hearst’s planet-friendly ethics and luxe-bohemian aesthetic have affirmed the maison’s commitment to both style and substance. In fact, at her interview for the creative director role, the Uruguayan designer famously presented a 92-page document outlining her vision and sustainability goals. Honoring these eco-friendly commitments, more than half of Hearst’s first resort collection has been crafted using materials that have a reduced environmental impact. The brand’s efforts were recognized in October 2021, when Chloé became the first luxury-fashion house to earn an esteemed B Corp Certification, meaning Hearst’s whimsical, ’70s-inflected dresses, statement outerwear and future-cult-status accessories have been more thoughtfully crafted. Here, team NET-A-PORTER share the pieces they’re lusting after.
Gillian Brett, senior fashion features editor, ‘Nama’ embroidered suede and recycled mesh sneakers
“I’ve made a style resolution: not a New Year’s one, but a lifelong commitment to shop more sustainably. Sneakers are a mainstay of my everyday look, so I was delighted to discover that Chloé’s ‘Nama’ style comes consciously crafted from recycled and lower-impact materials. With their pumped-up sole and sweet hand-stitched design (which nods to the label’s bohemian roots), these chic sneakers will add a directional edge to off-duty denim and athleisure – whether I’m pounding the city sidewalks or taking a stroll in the park.”
Lea Cranfield, chief buying and merchandising officer, broderie anglaise cotton-poplin maxi dress
“Although we are very much in winter territory in London right now, I love nothing more than that perfect trans-seasonal piece – one that will carry me through the seasons with boots, sandals and coats (or lack thereof) – and this dress is exactly that. For now, I’ll be layering it with a beautiful shearling coat and boots, and, when the weather warms up, a pair of simple strappy sandals.”
Libby Page, senior market editor, perforated leather and organic-denim trench coat
“As someone who almost solely shops wardrobe heroes, I am always looking for classics with a twist; items that will stand the test of time while carrying that new-season attitude. I’ll be pairing this trench with a pair of straight-leg denim jeans and a burgundy ankle boot for contrast. The finishing touch? A slouchy weekender bag to relax the strong structure of the coat.”
Alice Casely-Hayford, content director, patchwork suede jacket
“I’m prematurely getting excited for the approach of spring with this beautifully crafted suede patchwork jacket. A trans-seasonal piece that can be thrown over knitwear, jeans and chunky boots – or paired with a gorgeous dress come summer – this is a timeless item that will only get better with age.”
Helen Broadfoot, deputy fashion director, crochet-trimmed washed-linen maxi dress
“This dress encapsulates the Chloé girl: bohemian, free-spirited and joyful. I love its classic shape, with rainbow-hued, hand-spun fringing adding a real sense of craftsmanship. It will look divine with chunky leather sandals – you can almost feel the sizzling heat of a summer escape just looking at it. Heaven!”
Megan Logue, fashion features editor, ‘Key’ small leather-trimmed linen bucket bag
“In an ongoing effort to streamline my closet, I’ve been trying to shop smarter and look for pieces that feel ‘of the moment’ but also promise long-term wearability. It’s a tall order, but one that Chloé’s ultra-chic ‘Key’ bag more than meets. The clashing textures and rope strap feel totally fresh, while the bucket shape is a tried-and-tested classic. I’ll be pairing it with blue denim and chunky knits for off-duty days, using it to offset the austerity of oversized suiting during the week, and styling it with cotton dresses come summertime. Essentially, it comes with a guaranteed ROI.”
Kay Barron, fashion director, ruffled organic-denim midi dress
“I would live in great denim all year round if I could (and recently, I have…), and this Chloé denim dress would quickly become a favorite in my closet. Feminine without being girly (because ‘girly’ is never for me), its subtle ruffled shoulder line brings an unexpected softness. Ideal layered over a fitted turtleneck and worn with boots in colder months, it will also hold its own with heels and bare skin come spring. An added bonus is that it is made from deadstock fabrics and organic materials, so it really is as good as it looks.”
Viktorija Tomasevic, junior shopping editor, scalloped wool-gabardine trench coat
“Over the past few years, I’ve become much more aware of my shopping behavior and, instead of buying trend-led items, I now invest in timeless pieces that I will treasure forever. Chic yet versatile, Chloé’s wool-gabardine trench coat is beautifully cut and creates just the right amount of impact with its scalloped trim. I’d layer it over everything from neat knits and tailoring to shirt dresses with leather boots.”
Connie Parkinson, shopping assistant, ‘Edith’ medium leather-trimmed recycled-cashmere tote
“Nothing brings me more joy than when designers dig into their archives and bring new life to iconic styles. Gabriela Hearst’s sustainable take on the ‘Edith’ tote instantly caught my eye. Made from recycled cashmere, this bag feels cozy and chic, while the practical size fits all your daily essentials. Styled with tracksuits or tailoring, this bag will elevate any outfit with ease.”
