New York-born label Khaite is lauded for its elevated essentials – jeans, blouses and knits are its bread and butter – but creative director Catherine Holstein also has an experimental side. For spring/summer 2020, she indulged her low-key yet avant-garde approach with plunging (we’re talking navel-grazing) necklines, diaphanous prom dresses and gravity-defying, pumped-up sleeves.
Inspired by childhood summers in Woodstock, Vermont, Holstein’s prairie dresses are for fashion-forward free spirits. This ruched gingham mini dress comes with sculptural puffed sleeves, making it sit somewhere between easy day dress and statement-making eveningwear.
PORTER shopping assistant Viktorija Tomasevic has already planned how she’ll be wearing it for as many occasions as possible: “With its dramatic sleeves, intricate ruching and flattering bateau neckline, Khaite’s Shelly dress has a sensual and elegant feel to it. Now that summer has arrived in London, I’ll be pairing it with flat sandals and gold jewelry for day and heeled mules with a slouchy leather clutch at night – once the lockdown is lifted.”
Another master of elevating the everyday is Loewe’s Jonathan Anderson. This season, Anderson decorated a simple black leather satchel with a crystal-embellished flower and added a playful pop of pastel yellow to the lining. Wear it with your favorite jeans and a silk shirt to boost your style credentials.
