Embrace Modern Romance With Zimmermann’s Latest Collection
The Australian brand’s signature sophisticated designs have made it the go-to brand for elegant pieces that balance polish with ease
Few brands better capture the joy of getting dressed than Zimmermann – an uplifting palette, ruffled hems, lace details, always shot through with a dose of luxe bohemia that speaks to its Sydney origins. The brand was founded by sisters Nicky and Simone Zimmermann in 1991 – the duo work collaboratively, with Nicky designing the collections and Simone overseeing the business side of things. Their eponymous brand has enjoyed worldwide success with its unique take on modern romance, which has seen the house go from strength to strength over the last three decades – it has a loyal global following and dresses a string of A-list style icons, that includes Jennifer Lopez, Emily Blunt and Jessica Alba.
This season, Zimmermann titled its collection ‘In Illustration’ and began with fashion illustrations of the 1920s. The resulting designs riff on the way a fashion illustration is translated into a garment. “It starts with a sketch”, reads the opening line from the fall 2024 ready-to-wear collection notes – more than a factual statement, this is a philosophy that underpins everything the house creates. “It’s the way we work,” says Nicky Zimmermann, speaking on the brand’s YouTube channel, “I see the garment, I see what it looks like, what it would look like walking, what it would look like on a person.”

Zimmermann’s approach reflects the integral role that form, body and movement play in the brand’s design process – “capturing the sense of movement and lightness from the original sketch in the true garment” is key, ensuring each piece is flattering, special. The culmination is the runway lineup – shown during Paris Fashion Week – “it’s when the illustrations really come to life”. The brand’s approach is always thoughtful, often led by color and texture, creating designs that are never restrictive.
“The new collection reflects Zimmermann’s surefooted aesthetic – in the brand’s own words, “sophisticated femininity, clever color combinations and delicate original prints”

This season, as ever, the collection reflects Zimmermann’s surefooted aesthetic – in the brand’s own words, “sophisticated femininity, clever color combinations and delicate original prints” – think floor-sweeping dresses, soft volume and carefully considered prints. Exacting detail is integral – lace skirts drape and flow just so, necklines are cut to precision. Print placement is designed as part of a garment, considering how it moves, where fabric falls. A lace dress and enveloping silk leopard print coat perfectly balances drama with whimsy, a black lace gown is both high-impact and eminently wearable. Zimmermann is the go-to brand for elegant investment pieces that you and your wardrobe will cherish forever.
Referencing the Bloomsbury group as a source of inspiration, there’s a sense of nostalgia in the silhouettes, a nuance to the palette that references days gone by. This melding of past and future is innately Zimmermann – respect and admiration for tradition, injected with a modern sensibility. The brand has always known exactly what it’s doing. Creative director Nicky Zimmermann knows her brand DNA inside out, and though she is clear that it doesn't ‘do’ trends, designs are always conceived with a clear-eyed sense for the current sartorial mood. This collection is no exception – there’s a toughness here, a sense of modernity that feels very now, always crafted to high quality, fusing artisanal craftsmanship and imaginative design – and always, ultimately, about women enjoying their clothes.
