Citizens of Humanity has long been hailed for its incredible fit and uniquely directional voice in the denim market. Once you try Citizens of Humanity denim, you never look back: the label’s jeans give you that confidence boost when you need it most and lend an irresistible strut to everyday outfits. What’s more, Citizens of Humanity is as committed to sustainability as it is to style, with the launch of its first collection made from regenerative cotton now making waves in the industry.

Two years in the making, this landmark, revolutionary move began in 2022, when the Citizens of Humanity Group and Advancing Eco Agriculture (AEA) teamed up to launch the Regenerative Cotton Program – a scheme designed to empower cotton growers and entice more farmers to transition to regenerative practices. Why? Because regenerative farming cultivates a healthy relationship between cotton plants, the soil, and ultimately the Earth’s atmosphere. By implementing the techniques that focus on soil health and biodiversity, farmers can reduce carbon emissions and restore soil health – both of which lead to greater crop yields and play an essential part in the fight against climate change.

There are now 11 farmers in the US, plus three in Turkey, who form part of the Citizens of Humanity Regenerative Cotton Program – and that number is expected to grow significantly in the coming months and years. Indeed, the AEA has already launched a new standard, called Integrity Grown, which sets a high bar for regenerative cotton growing practices, and will ultimately elevate the quality of cotton used to produce Citizens of Humanity’s premium denim.

“The Integrity Grown standard creates a deeper level of transparency for consumers into the cotton-growing practices of the regenerative farmers who are supplying us,” explains Amy Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Citizens of Humanity Group. “We’ll now be able to understand the impact of our regenerative cotton supply more deeply, with the goal to improve one of the most chemical intensive and soil degrading systems of agriculture – growing cotton.”

This is a first-of-its-kind move in the world of denim, and, as Citizens of Humanity continues to have conversations with other apparel and lifestyle brands, it’s one that could change the industry for the better, too, convincing more powerhouse companies to work with regenerative cotton in the future.

Style-wise, this signature collection also captures Citizens of Humanity at its best. Its denim has always been a winning wardrobe ally, but the brand’s pledge to lead the charge for change in cotton production has cemented its status as a label to love – and be proud to invest in.
