Most Wanted
A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
If you needed any further proof that red is the color du jour, the stars at this week’s 81st Golden Globes served it up in spades as they welcomed the return of glamour to Hollywood. The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri looked stunning in the shade as she picked up her award on the night, while Julianne Moore, Selena Gomez and Florence Pugh all scored a place on our best-dressed list in scarlet and cherry-red gowns by Bottega Veneta, Armani Privé and Valentino Garavani respectively. While opportunities to get all dressed up in January might be few and far between for most of us, we can all turn to cozy staples for an easy way to wear the trending hue now.
“January is the perfect month to inject a bold, uplifting color like red into your wardrobe,” says NET-A-PORTER’s fashion assistant Maya Gunavardhana, adding that layering is her favorite way to do it. The snuggly piece that’s shot straight to the top of her wish list is &Daughter’s ‘Glenn’ sweater from our consciously crafted NET SUSTAIN edit. “Knitted locally in the UK from 100% wool using traditional techniques, this super-soft knit will keep me feeling both warm and cheerful on darker days,” she says.
When searching for inspiration on how to style your new knit, you will find plenty from fashion influencers’ Instagram Reels and TikToks – but Audrey Hepburn is also a great muse. Following on from the adoration garnered for the simple black turtleneck she wore in the dancing scene from Funny Face, the actor slipped into a red sweater and blue jeans for the 1967 romantic comedy-drama Two for the Road. Jeans in a dark-blue wash are the key to replicating her casual outfit, and Loewe’s straight-leg pair come in a deep indigo. Plus, they instantly modernize Hepburn’s iconic look thanks to the curly white ‘Anagram’ at both knees – a motif that went viral in 2023 and continues to be a major hit.
“To stay warm but still look chic, I would top my outfit off with a brown shearling coat or jacket,” reveals Gunavardhana. Fitting the bill, Toteme’s chunky zip-up winter jacket – which is also part of our NET SUSTAIN edit – has rounded shoulders and a cream collar to match the cuffs and hem. Timeless, reliable and versatile, it looks just as beautiful paired with muted neutrals as it does with paintbox-brights. Whether you choose beige or poppy underpinnings, a simple way to pull everything together is to coordinate your accessories to the jacket’s smooth black leather trims. Try Loewe’s ‘Pebble’ tote and, depending on the weather forecast, either Khaite’s signature ‘Marfa’ ankle boots or The Row’s ‘Eva’ ballet flats.
Finally, all that’s left to add is a touch of polish, courtesy of gleaming gold jewelry – and we suggest sticking to rings. From a collection of modern heirlooms by creative director and founder Beth Hutchens, Foundrae’s 18-karat-gold signet ring is deftly handmade and dotted with round-cut diamonds for a subtle touch of sparkle.
