Now that end-of-year parties have wrapped for most of us, we’re switching gears from chic event attire to luxe separates that will see us through present drop-offs, festive catch-ups and rejuvenating countryside walks with ease. As stylish as they are cozy, these wardrobe staples are the kind that feel extra-delightful to slip into after a season of dressing up – and they’ll be exactly what we reach for throughout 2024’s early months.

Seen at various fall/winter ’23 shows, including Molly Goddard in London and Victoria Beckham in Paris, a humble gray sweater should be your starting point for a relaxed yet put together look. Turn to a new name to know, Veronica de Piante – who views comfort a non-negotiable when designing her refined knits – for a pared-back take on preppy collegiate styles. The brand’s mélange ‘Poppy’ sweater is knitted from an all-natural blend of wool and cashmere for supreme softness and has thickly ribbed trims to define the V-neck shape. “As the FW23 runways so beautifully demonstrated, one of the best things about gray sweaters is the myriad ways they can be worn,” says NET-A-PORTER’s junior fashion editor Kristen Neillie. “For example, you could effortlessly team Veronica de Piante’s elevated sweater with leather, denim, tonal tailoring or track pants,” she suggests.

In rich chocolate brownthe shade of the season – Loewe’s track pants tap into the resurging athleisure trend. Far more likely to be seen on a fashion influencer than a sportswoman in action, they’re made from smooth jersey, with streamlining side stripes and coordinating white drawstring ties. Embroidered at the hip is Loewe’s signature ‘Anagram’ motif. Originally designed in 1970 by Spanish artist Vicente Vela, the curly quadruple-L insignia underwent a modern refresh when Jonathan Anderson took the helm as creative director and tasked design studio M/M (Paris) to redraw it in a way that felt contemporary yet faithful to the original.

Finally, you’ll need to ground your outfit with the perfect flats – and it’s a tight toss-up between loafers and sneakers. If it’s a pair of elegant loafers that’s currently missing from your shoe capsule, Khaite’s Catherine Holstein has come up with the goods once more. “It’s not just Khaite’s ‘Marfa’ boots that are in high demand this season, but the New York brand’s minimalist loafers, too,” says Neillie. Available to add to your NET-A-PORTER shopping bag in off-white and black, the brand’s ‘Alessio’ loafers have been crafted from supple leather that’s been buffed to a gorgeously high gloss. Planning to plump for the lighter color of the two? Add a coordinating scarf by Lauren Manoogian and some warm-gold jewelry, such as Lié Studio’s sculptural ‘Ingrid’ earrings.
