Those in the Northern Hemisphere lamenting long, sunny evenings, as well as those in the Southern Hemisphere stepping into spring, can jointly rejoice in the fact that the new-season collections have arrived. And, this time round, certain designers have brought an unexpectedly soft touch to autumnal hues. Both Jacquemus and Christopher Esber conjured cantaloupe and cream-colored ribbed-knit dresses that, at NET-A-PORTER’s London office, make packing away our high-summer pieces far more bearable. In a slightly denser material than the linens and light cottons we’ve been wafting around in for the past few months, they are ideal transitional pieces. Esber’s Orbit Fran dress has a sculptural pleated skirt and demure side cut-outs featuring a striking jasper stone detail, giving this minimalist shape a modernist edge. Worn with Neous’s understated midi sandals, it makes a chic return-to-the-office look, or, paired with ballet flats, you have yourself a simple but polished WFH ensemble, too.

PORTER’s junior fashion editor, Marquessa Lucas-Box, was drawn to Jacquemus’s sporty polo dress for its similar wearability. “For me, it’s all about investing in versatile pieces that are suitable for any occasion. This open-back, ribbed-knit polo dress is just that. Made from a low-key jersey in a refined cut, it is perfect on warm days with slides or flat sandals. When the weather gets chillier, it can be worn with combat boots and an oversized coat – and, after dark, I’d style it with barely-there sandals, chunky gold hoop earrings and a clutch bag – ideally by Bottega Veneta.

On the runway, the French designer styled it with socks and strappy sandals. To pull this off, seek out delicate, fine-knit ankle-length socks – bulkier versions won’t have the same effect. For something more classic, Loewe’s two-tone, top-stitched backless loafers are a worthy investment that will also work with tailoring and denim.
