The midi skirt

Midi skirts are a fail-safe option, whatever the season, but summer always delivers a breadth of styles in transitional colors, fabrics and shapes. Ulla Johnson’s ‘Rosine’ midi is trimmed with delicate black lace and falls in soft pleats, enhancing its suppleness, while Rabanne’s slinky style comes in figure-skimming satin-jersey with signature barbell detailing at the waist and swishy fringing. Both can easily be styled for day or night with a crisp white shirt and heels, or a tank and ballet flats. Alternatively, embrace a ’70s mood with Chloé’s pleated suede skirt in classic beige – a standout style from our NET SUSTAIN edit.

The micro-mini skirt

Maxi skirts may have dominated fashion headlines for some time, but they aren’t the only style everyone is wearing right now – ultra-mini hemlines are in, too, and were seen at Gucci, Emilia Wickstead and Bally this season. Unsure how to style one? Take cues from tastemakers by balancing the thigh-grazing length with a long-sleeved shirt or an oversized jacket during the day, swapping for heels in the evening. Givenchy’s shimmering silk-gabardine mini skirt comes in a gorgeous ‘Vermillion’ shade and is destined for a spin on the dance floor. Elsewhere, Loewe’s utilitarian drawstring style looks as chic dressed down with a simple tee, ankle socks and loafers as it does with a blazer and pumps for parties.

The maxi skirt

Maxi skirts swept the SS25 runways in various guises – from sleek and sculptural to artisanal and bohemian, there’s a maxi out there to suit all tastes and occasions. If you’re petite, simply balance the long style with a heel – or have a tailor alter it to your desired length. Cut from crocheted lace, Missoni’s chevron-striped skirt exudes elegance and is perfect for weddings and garden parties, especially when styled with the matching top. Elsewhere, Toteme’s ‘Parachute’ style in wispy silk-blend is an effortless choice for low-key lunch dates. Wear it with an oversized shirt and thong sandals, adding delicate gold jewelry for a touch of polish.
