Winter Wedding Inspiration From 3 Chic Brides
Whether your bridal style is traditional, contemporary or romantic, a winter wedding calls for a looks that feels as enchanting as the season itself – think dramatic silhouettes, ornate textures and exquisite details. Here, three brides share their take on winter wedding dressing
The ethereal bride
When it came to deciding who would make her wedding gown, photographer Harley Weir only had one person in mind for the job – London-based designer and good friend Dilara Findikoglu. Based on Look 26 from Findikoglu’s fall/winter ’23 collection, Weir’s corseted dress of dreams was customized with ribbons, bows and antique lace that the vintage-obsessed bride had sourced herself online. Needless to say, it more than lived up to the Gothic surroundings of Lismore Castle in Ireland, the venue Weir and her husband, John Kelleher, had settled on for the big day.
To complete her ethereal bridal look, Weir wore a 100-year-old tulle veil filled with dried flowers and a pair of pre-loved crystal-embellished Manolo Blahnik heeled slippers that she bleached herself before the wedding, transforming them from vibrant purple to romantic dusty rose. After the ceremony, the newlyweds took a walk around the castle gardens before dinner, with the hem of Weir’s dress getting muddier as they went – a detail that she felt only added to the romance and ephemerality of the day itself.
For the reception, Weir commissioned textile designer Jaimee Callon McKenna to create a bespoke crocheted dress incorporating references to ancient stone circles in Scotland. A pair of hand-whittled wooden shoes, a crochet necklace and a vintage Saint Laurent bag perfectly complemented the spellbinding nature of the design.
Before the night came to an end, Weir changed into another Dilara Findikoglu dress – this time a mini with a corseted bodice and a deconstructed bustle – for a spin on the dance floor with her new husband, family and friends.

““I loved the contrast between the delicacy of the dress and the drama of the shearling.””Jodie Hill
The bride who wore black
For London-based creative consultant Jodie Hill, there was only one color she had in mind for her wedding day – and it wasn’t white. “I feel much more comfortable in black. I only really wear white with jeans, so it’s never felt particularly special to me,” she tells PORTER.
“I’m also very happy I didn’t have to spend the day worrying about stains or scuff marks. I put those dresses through their paces, and they’re still in perfect condition. Plus, they gave me the freedom to wear things I might not have considered in a more traditional setting,” says Hill of her three progressively sheer bridal looks. “Like, how many times can you get away with being semi-naked in front of your family? I made sure to give them a heads-up on that one…”
For the ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall, the bride exchanged vows with her partner, Jamie Reid, in a custom two-piece – a corseted blouse and a floor-length mermaid skirt – by friends Dylan Cao and Jin Kay, founders of Commission NYC. Hill completed the look with David Yurman jewels, studded Christian Louboutin heels and a sequin-adorned bag belonging to her mother.
The first outfit change of the day came before the couple’s reception at Guinea Grill in Mayfair, when Hill changed into another custom set, this time by Simone Rocha. “I’d first seen the original fall/winter ’24 look on my friend during a night out and remember telling her, ‘God, I’d love to get married in that,’” recalls Hill, who worked with Rocha to make a few adjustments, including adding shearling pelts to the shoulders of the jacket. “I loved the contrast between the delicacy of the dress and the drama of the shearling.”
Next came the after-party, held at Park Chinois, which called for something short and a little bit sexy. Enter Saint Laurent. “It was a tiny black lace dress, essentially two pieces of scalloped-edged lace stitched together with sleeves. I knew immediately it was the one.”

““I'd describe my bridal style as romantic, a little nostalgic, and perhaps slightly theatrical,””Gretty Garcia Clemente
The sentimental bride
“I’d describe my bridal style as romantic, a little nostalgic and perhaps slightly theatrical,” says writer Gretty Garcia Clemente, who married her husband, Jesse, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York last winter. “For my wedding weekend, I wanted each look to feel like an extension of both my personal style and the setting in which I’d be wearing it,” adds Garcia Clemente of her bridal trousseau, which included six different outfits for the three-day celebrations.
As a lover of vintage, it was only fitting for Garcia Clemente to get ready on the morning of the wedding in a Dior slip set from the ’80s. “I paired it with satin Herbert Levine shoes, which felt like such a lovely nod to New York fashion history. The house was founded in Manhattan by Beth and Herbert Levine in the late 1940s, and I’ve always admired the wit and inventiveness of Beth’s designs,” she tells PORTER.
Later that day, the bride walked down the aisle in a beautiful Mark Ingram gown of ivory lace, complete with a black bow (to complement her husband’s bow tie) and a dramatic chapel-length train that matched the majesty of the cathedral’s Neo-Gothic architecture. She completed the look with a pair of earrings belonging to the groom’s aunt – a beloved family heirloom worn by every bride in his family – and shoes by Manolo Blahnik, which she found on NET-A-PORTER.
For the reception, Garcia Clemente changed into Danielle Frankel’s ‘Audra’ dress. “I was drawn to its sculptural silhouette and how the silk-wool twill somehow managed to feel both crisp and soft at the same time,” she says. “It was elegant yet incredibly easy to move around in, which was especially important given how much celebrating we had ahead of us. Plus, it had pockets!”
Of all the accessories Garcia Clemente wore across the weekend, her Anya Hindmarch ‘Maud Tassel’ clutch holds a special place in her heart. “It was the first item I owned that featured my new initials on it. Plus, I was able to engrave the lining of the inside pocket with a piece of biblical scripture symbolic of the day, in my own handwriting. Every detail felt so personal.”
