Luxury, laid-back closet essentials get a vibrant color injection courtesy of SPLENDID and MARGHERITA MISSONI
When the world’s most stylish women are boosting their closets with luxury staples, Splendid is their first port of call. And now the label is getting a vibrant, spring-ready injection courtesy of a collaboration with Margherita Missoni.
Each piece in the Splendid x Margherita collection combines the effortless West-Coast vibe that Splendid is renowned for, with Margherita Missoni’s eclectic style signatures. Granddaughter of the founders of the famed Italian fashion house, she’s a childrenswear designer in her own right, and a style icon with an exceptional eye for color and print. She is also a long-time fan of Splendid: “I first came to know Splendid when I came to Los Angeles aged 18,” says Missoni. “I went into a store with my mum and discovered all this laid-back Californian style, which was very different to what I was used to in Italy, so I immediately bought a T-shirt. It’s one of first things that comes to my mind when I think of California.”
When it came to designing the collection, she kept the simplicity and ease that makes Splendid so endlessly appealing, incorporating visionary touches that set the pieces apart. Some of the flourishes are truly personal; the embroidered daisies are inspired not only by the English translation of Margherita’s name, but by the hand-embroidered pillowcases given to her by a friend on her wedding day.
She has satisfied her own summer closet requirements too. “I’ve been dreaming of owning a terry cloth kaftan for my summer evenings for quite some time now and I’ve never found one,” she says. Which is why you’ll find one in sun-bleached red alongside the retro-striped dresses, cut-off shorts and color-block sweaters. Each piece is an easy-breezy essential to see you through the warmer months in style. So bring on the sunshine, Californian or otherwise.
