How chic women wear wide-leg jeans

French musician and actress Françoise Hardy, pictured here in Venice, 1966, is the ultimate Parisian style pin-up

Skinny jeans’ stranglehold on our closets continues to wane, so we’re using the break to experiment, flirting with new denim cuts – from straight to boyfriend, baggy and almost everything in-between. Next on our list? Wide-leg. And who better to give you the lowdown on this insouciant style than three of our favorite Parisian style pin-ups? Sabina Socol, Anne-Laure Mais and Marta Cygan talk good jeans…

“Super high-waisted, wide-leg jeans are my all-time favorite! I love this shape because they really elongate the leg, and because they feel very 1970s – the best decade for fashion, in my opinion. For summer, I’ll trade dark tones for white, beige or even brightly colored styles, and pair them with a striped bodysuit for a chic nautical look, or a crop top for something a little more fun. Come winter, I’ll add a turtleneck or cropped sweater and amp up the retro overtones by finishing with some mock-croc boots. See more styling inspiration @sabinasocol

“I live in wide-leg jeans because they’re just so comfortable and they work with absolutely everything. They’re my favorite summer pants without a doubt. It can be hard to find the perfect fit as you want them to be very feminine and figure-hugging without being too tight, but I just bought an amazing white pair from J Brand that I can’t wait to wear. I love how they really accentuate your footwear, so I usually keep it really simple and wear mine with a white tee and cute heels. After-dark, I’ll go for sandals and a sexy top.” See more styling inspiration @adenorah

“I love wide-leg jeans because they are timeless. In summer, I always opt for a very French look that’s elegant but effortless – think Jane Birkin à la Saint-Tropez in white denim and a white crop top. For summer evenings, my look is a little more modern. I’ll wear them with a structural white shirt, minimalist jewelry and ATP Atelier sandals. Goldsign, The Row and Acne Studios are my go-to brands. I’ll update the look this winter by adding a floor-skimming cashmere coat, and knitwear in dark colors like black and green.” @lifeofboheme
