As fashion’s finest fill the French capital for the grand finale of the FW23 show season, Paris Fashion Week acts as a tribute to the industry’s celebrated heritage houses. With a prolific history that dates back to 1961, Saint Laurent continues to be a source of inspiration, thanks to its ability to blend timeless design with a fresh take on womenswear. Its ‘Le 5 à 7’ shoulder bag, for example, first debuted in spring 2021 and instantly gained cult status for its coveted ’90s-inspired style and contemporary, minimalist shape. The brand’s SS23 iteration – cut from fresh gray canvas, with a brown leather trim – would look divine with a tonal outfit on sunny days. Wear yours with Chloé’s light wool-and-cashmere sweater, chic leather pants by Isabel Marant, a statement coat and sneakers.

Connie Parkinson, NET-A-PORTER’s shopping assistant, describes Chloé’s denim trench coat as the perfect combination of refined and avant garde. “Denim is an undeniable wardrobe staple, but it has also become a big feature on the runway over the past few seasons. Designers have delivered statement outerwear and unexpected hemlines with elevated styling,” she says. “Coats don’t come much chicer than Chloé’s denim take on the classic trench. I really enjoy the oversized, slouchy fit, and the matching denim belt to cinch in the waist. Denim is coolest when kept simple, so I would pair it with a white tank top and wide-leg pants.”

Paris might be a mecca for established talent, but newer names such as Simon Porte Jacquemus and Pascale Monvoisin have quickly gained acclaim since launching in 2009. Jacquemus’ handbags count Rihanna, Hailey Bieber and Bridgerton’s Simone Ashley as fans, and its ‘Le Bambino’ tote is ideal for after-dark dressing. Pascale Monvoisin’s jewelry, on the other hand, is a favorite of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and actor January Jones. The brand’s ‘Orso’ earring is strung with a pretty amethyst that has been hand-selected by the designer herself – style with contrasting gemstones for an inspired take on the curated ear.
