Physically deskside, mentally beachside? We can relate. So, this week the PORTER fashion team is experimenting with a trend we’re calling ‘Executive escapism’: it’s one part corporate realness, one part pure fantasy. The mood is Jacquemus SS20 – who could forget the French label’s 10th-anniversary show last June, complete with a shocking-pink strip of catwalk that ran through an undulating lavender field in Provence?

One of the standout pieces was this exquisite cornflower-blue fringed midi skirt, styled with a slouchy utility jacket. Each strand of the whimsically named ‘Capri’ skirt is appliquéd with tiny pompoms that swish with every step. Wear it with a cashmere knit and a blazer to inject a vacay vibe into your workwear, or if your office dress code calls for more formal attire, save it for an extra-special evening event.

For subtler means of mastering this trend, try Acne Studios’ burgundy cocoon coat and The Row’s matching knee-high boots with a crisp white shirt dress, or a boldly colored blouse and pleated midi skirt. Accessories offer an understated nod to this look, too, so consider Loewe’s cult puzzle bag delicately trimmed with white crochet, or Mark Cross’s leather and rattan tote.

Best of all, investing in these versatile pieces now means you’ve already laid the foundations for an ultra-chic vacation wardrobe once you’re actually out of office.
