The styling trick: leather on leather
Fashion’s love affair with the ’90s shows no signs of abating and, while it has been building for a few seasons now, the FW19 collections saw the fascination hit fever pitch, as a plethora of designers sent Matrix-style, double-leather looks down the runway. The best examples? Acne Studios and Sally LaPointe posited head-to-toe leather as a modern take on power dressing, while The Row and 3.1 Phillip Lim made a case for seasonless essentials with their timeless leather pieces. Alternatively, look to cult labels Ganni and Nanushka for equally covetable faux-leather pieces. When it comes to styling, head-to-toe leather might seem like a daunting sartorial proposition, but the key to nailing the look is getting the proportions right. Wide-leg pants and a leather top or jacket require a waist-cinching element to create definition, while mid-length skirts paired with knee-high leather boots will create the illusion of longer legs.
