A curated roundup of the best new fashion arrivals, hand-picked by our editors
This week saw the close of a fashion season unlike any other. Undeterred by travel restrictions and reduced guest lists, for designers, SS21 was a triumph of creativity. The traditional notion of the fashion show was totally reimagined, as experimental presentations and digital-first formats were debuted across New York, London, Milan and Paris. As ever, the French capital, home to some of the industry’s most storied labels, was the final stop on the calendar – and it did not disappoint. Parisian style is often lauded as the pinnacle of sophistication, thanks to French designers’ seemingly instinctive ability to strike that elusive balance between effortlessness and elegance. The result? A certain sartorial je ne sais quoi that has inspired legions of followers.
Keen to imbue your own closet with Gallic nonchalance? Don’t wait for the SS21 collections to drop – invest in the country’s most singular designers and agenda-setting labels now. LVMH prize-winning designer Simon Porte Jacquemus has been an industry darling since he founded his eponymous label, aged just 19. His joyful yet decidedly practical pieces would make a welcome addition to any woman’s wardrobe. This winter, pair the brand’s pastel wide-leg pants with chunky knits and classic loafers. Alternatively, there’s Isabel Marant, the Parisian native who consistently delivers closet staples with a cool, contemporary edge. Consider her white knee-high boots, complete with signature cone heel, a sure-fire way to elevate even the most ordinary of outfits. Of course, no look is complete without a few choice pieces of fine jewelry. In recent years, heritage house Repossi – a stalwart of Place Vendôme – has become the go-to for fashion insiders with a penchant for architectural designs; its rose-gold ring makes the perfect finishing touch for any look.
This season, fashion features editor Megan Logue has fallen for a diaphanous printed maxi dress by cult label Loewe. “Jonathan Anderson’s distinct designs never fail to surprise and inspire me, which is why, in my opinion, the Loewe show is the highlight of Paris fashion week. As the weather in London becomes increasingly unpredictable, I’m on the hunt for versatile pieces that work for any occasion and can be transformed with the addition of chic layers and accessories. Day to day, I plan to toughen up this ultra-feminine piece by adding combat boots and shrugging on an oversized cardigan. After dark, I’ll go for a more ladylike look by finishing it with barely there sandals and a structured shoulder bag.”
