How The Beauty A-List Prep Their Skin Before A Big Event

If you have a party coming up, you need to read this. From SARAH CHAPMAN’s night-before regimen for a glowing complexion, to CHARLOTTE TILBURY’s pre-makeup facial, NEWBY HANDS asks the experts to share the pre-event beauty secrets they swear by

Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury, entrepreneur and makeup artist

“I often do an at-home facial. I’m obsessed with my Charlotte Tilbury Super Radiance Resurfacer – it’s amazing! When you’re looking exhausted and you slough off all the dead skin, then it’s, ‘Oh, my god!’ because your skin looks reborn. And I love to do an ‘ice gym for the skin’ with my Cryo-Recovery Face Mask for that instant tightening effect, too – it always gives me a tighter jawline and brighter eyes. Plus, it closes the pores and really depuffs; I use my serum underneath it and, with the mask on, I hold it up under my cheeks and tap my fingers over it to get the circulation going. I’ve always used cryo on my clients and would use ice on their skin – it’s an old Hollywood trick. It’s just amazing how much it can depuff, tighten, and lift and close up pores.”

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, entrepreneur and model

“The night before [an event], I love to have a spray tan. I find it’s important to exfoliate first, then I use the Rose Inc Skin Resolution Clarifying Toner, which is great for acne-prone skin like mine. I love a face mask for that instant hydration, too – especially the Rose Gold Brightening Mask from 111Skin.’’

“People always talk about face massage, but I know that microcurrent tools, like the NuFace device, work much better to depuff and sculpt the face (I used to work for NuFace and they did a demo on someone in her 70s; when I saw the ‘before’ and ‘after’ it was, ‘You have to be kidding!’). I always use an Alpha Beta peel pad from Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare right before putting my makeup on, too. I’m not a great makeup person, but I like a tinted CC cream – I have melasma and it really helps cover it.’

Mimi Luzon, aesthetician

“Before any special occasion I do a mini-facial on myself, starting with the Mimi Luzon 24K Pure Gold Exfoliator – a chemical peel is a great way to delicately buff away old skin cells and reveal new ones. Then I then go in with my Sparkling Super Mask, which infuses the skin with oxygen and evens out skin tone. After washing that off with a warm towel, I put a second mask on, my 24K Pure Gold Treatment, and leave it to soak for 10 minutes while I gently massage it in. I’ll finish with a serum and cream, and, for a really dewy finish, I mix my foundation with a few drops of oil before applying.”

Sarah Chapman

Sarah Chapman, aesthetician

“I do all the beauty prep I can the night before, rather than the ‘day of’, as I think it gives you much better results. On the day itself, I just use a hydrating serum or mask – it’s what I always do for my clients for any big event, like their wedding day. The night before, I always sleep in the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer hair mask, and I’ll do micro-needling with my Sarah Chapman Skinesis Meso-Melt Infusion System and use a vitamin C ampoule afterwards. Then, on the actual day of the event, I’ll use my 3D Moisture Infusion Mask and then add a drop of oil to my foundation for that glossy-skin look. Hair by Sam McKnight’s Cool Girl spray is also great for my hair when it looks a bit flat.”

Tina Craig, entrepreneur

“My prepping starts the night before with U Beauty’s The Barrier Bioactive Treatment; I use it every night, but I’ll be extra-generous ahead of a special occasion. I’ll rinse my hair in fermented rice water – I always keep some in the fridge for extra shine and smoothness – and then I use the Ziip Beauty Ziip Device for a boost in muscle stimulation. It also doesn’t hurt to double up on water for 24 hours pre-party, and to avoid salt and alcohol. The morning of the event, I’ll do a session with the TriPollar Stop X device to tighten, sculpt, and contour my jawline and cheekbones. Next, I love the Clé de Peau Beauté Illuminating Concentrate Mask, especially when I’m pressed for time. I’ll finish with my usual three-step U Beauty routine and, finally, a quick face icing via cryo sticks ensures my skin is smooth and prepped for makeup. It’s fail-proof!”

Melanie Grant

Melanie Grant, aesthetician

“I get a blow-dry the day before and then use dry shampoo on the day, so my hair looks less ‘done’. I also use fake tan (but never on my face) the day before. [On the day of the event], I like to add a few drops of oil to my body cream too, as it gives the skin and ‘tan’ a silky glow.”
