Parisian-based brand Gauchere, known for its elegant separates, has been on the radar of ardent fashion fans for a few seasons now. However, for FW20, designer Marie-Christine Statz has taken her singular vision one step further, debuting pieces that are at once understated, directional and, most crucially, wearable. Chiming perfectly with the ‘new normal’, striking designs such as a belted woollen shirt promise to elevate your off-duty uniform, complementing everything from wide-leg pants and slip skirts to track pants and even pajama bottoms (if you’re a proponent of dressing from the waist up). Pair with Jennifer Fisher’s textured gold-hoop earrings and Laura Lombardi’s chunky chain bracelet and you’ll be Zoom-ready in an instant.

Of course, due to indoor socializing restrictions in countries across the globe, outerwear is another area of our closets that could do with a serious overhaul. With the outdoors playing an increasingly important role in our social lives, investing in the perfect coat has never been more important. Which is why junior fashion market editor Abbi Minchin was quick to snap up Le 17 Septembre’s classic woollen coat when it landed on site this week. “Spending more time outdoors has meant that my outerwear has had to work harder this season. This chocolate-brown overcoat by Le 17 Septembre is great for autumnal walks – either as the finishing touch to a chic multi-layered look, or thrown over a knitted midi dress for milder days. The relaxed fit is the perfect blend of polish and casual. I’ll be styling it with straight-leg jeans and chunky combat boots for optimum comfort, as I walk for miles to get a takeaway coffee with my friend!”

Considered accessories won’t just complete your cold-weather closet – classic pieces such as a tan cross-body bag by Saint Laurent or Senreve’s brilliant-white ‘Voya’ tote will work with any outfit and boast year-round appeal. While many of us will be taking a more casual approach to dressing after this year’s events, Common Projects’ butter-soft leather sneakers are an invaluable addition to anyone’s arsenal. You’ll be left wondering what you ever wore before.
