’Tis the season to embrace knitwear, and this week, the PORTER fashion team are seeking out festive styles. We’re not talking Santa sweaters; when it comes to wrapping up chicly, brands such as Jonathan Simkhai and Gucci have elevated humble staples into elegant day-to-evening styles. Simkhai subverted the turtleneck with sensual shoulder cut-outs for his ‘Lila’ rib knit; tuck it into leather pants for a sleek office-to-out look. Gucci’s statement cardigan, decorated in the house’s signature ‘GG’ logo, will instantly dress up jeans and sneakers, and looks equally good paired with party skirts – style it with Altuzarra’s glistening gold pleated midi for after-hours. Manolo Blahnik’s crystal-embellished ‘Lurum’ heels, Isabel Marant’s chunky gold bracelet and a spritz of Byredo’s heady ‘Mumbai Noise’ are the perfect finishing touches.
“I tend to stick to a pretty muted palette when it comes to my closet, but red is the exception to that rule – especially when it comes to party season. I’ll be opting for more intimate gatherings this year, like long, candlelit dinners with friends, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be dialling down the glamour. In fact, getting dressed up again is one of the things I’m most looking forward to this festive season. Which is why when I saw this show-stopping Reformation dress, I had to have it. This body-sculpting piece, complete with cut-outs and subtle chain detailing, is a statement style, so I’ll be keeping the rest of my look low-key. Styled simply with sleek hair and Manolo Blahnik’s limited-edition gold mules, this gorgeous dress makes for maximum impact.”
When it comes to accessories, we’re all about finding hardworking investment pieces. Saint Laurent’s ‘Joe’ quilted-leather backpack blurs the line between daytime practicality and evening sophistication with its capacious shape, luxe finish, chunky chain-link drawstring and gold YSL monogram. Wear it with your favourite LBD by night, and for day, style it with a sleek knit dress and Alexander McQueen’s chunky knee-high boots.
