Australian Fashion Week: Everybody’s Wearing Colorful Bags
When it comes to this season’s hottest accessory, there was a rainbow of styles on display on the streets of Sydney during Australian Fashion Week. By GILLIAN BRETT
Despite inclement weather conditions, the styling was on point on the streets of Sydney at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week, where show attendees made up for the lack of sunshine with rainbow-bright handbags. From candy pink to bright orange, brilliant bags enlivened dark tailoring or complemented head-to-toe statement looks. It was truly a how-to in embracing color – be it muted or bold.
Naturally, Balenciaga’s cult ‘Le Cagole’ was spotted at the shows – while on the streets, we loved the soft-pink version, worn nonchalantly across the body with crisp brown suiting for an unexpected and ultra-modern color pairing. To try the look for yourself, why not style the hot-pink ‘Cagole XS’ with double denim in saturated indigo?
Zesty hues, such as lemon and lime, give a little oomph to any look. Bottega Veneta’s highly coveted ‘Jodie’ tote in citrus green, for example, will enliven white linen dresses in summer and beige trench coats for fall. For vacations, Loewe’s ‘Anagram’ raffia tote in sunbeam yellow is the perfect partner to printed dresses, as well as denim cut-offs worn with sleek swimwear. Meanwhile, JW Anderson’s luscious tangerine baguette bag is ideal as an after-dark accessory – pair it with an LBD and some slip-on mules for a dance-floor-ready, ’90s-inspired look.
Whether you like richly tonal ensembles or prefer muted shades with subtle color accents, bags in upbeat shades are the perfect styling trick to invigorate your look.
