Your Personal Shopper Loves… Sarah Shares Her Must-Have Buys
Get to know the tastes and styling tips of NET-A-PORTER’s Personal Shoppers as they reveal what’s on their Wish List this season – and how they will be wearing their picks. Here, Sarah, from our North America team, divulges her most-wanted pieces and why she loves them
“Growing up, I never had to look far for fashion inspiration: my grandmother, Beverly, has always been the most impeccably well-dressed woman I know; her attire fits, whatever she has on her schedule. If it’s a lady’s lunch, she looks the part in a pantsuit with a scarf around her neck and matching shoes. Days spent on the farm with her horses call for jeans, a button-down and cowboy boots. I remember walking into her closet and running my hands against the fabrics of what seemed like endless gowns and cases of jewelry – a vintage designer haven. I think it’s safe to say that’s where my love for the finer things comes from!
“I started working in retail when I was in college and found that I loved connecting with the people who came into the store almost as much as I loved the clothing. Helping women feel confident and having them trust in me has been so gratifying over the years, and I wanted to take what I was doing to the next level, helping more clients with even more fabulous products. That’s why I pursued a career in personal shopping.
“My style is feminine with some edge, but very much dependent on my mood. It can be quite whimsical, when I’m wearing a LoveShackFancy mini dress to a brunch, for example; or it can be more sophisticated when I go to a dinner, wearing my favorite straight-leg blue jeans, a silk blouse, navy blazer and strappy kitten heels with lots of gold jewelry. My style has simplified due to the pandemic: most days, when I leave the apartment, I either wear a dress or try to find new ways to style denim with a cropped jacket, or a shoe with a pop of color.”
Hoop earrings
“A perfect pair of hoops that takes you from day to night is a must-have in my book. With so many choices, from chunky to delicate, diamond, silver or gold, there’s a pair for any day of the week – and for any outfit. I wear mine with jeans and a button-down shirt; or when I’m going for a nice dinner, with a dress and leather jacket. My favorite brands are Anita Ko (for gold and diamonds), Jennifer Fisher (for gold fashion hoops) and Suzanne Kalan (for diamonds). If you’re looking for a good pair of hoops to invest in, I would suggest medium to smaller-sized ones – because they are classics.”
A button-down shirt
“Another item definitely worth investing in is a button-down shirt. Oversized or sleek, white or colored, a button-down makes an outfit feel polished and timeless – without trying too hard. You could go for an oversized silhouette from Frankie Shop – worn with denim shorts and sandals – or choose cleaner lines with a fitted style from The Row or Erdem. Personally, I like to pair a more classic button-down with my favorite trousers or cargo pants, lots of gold necklaces and sneakers.”
A small bag
“Finally, a small bag is a definite key item for me. Whether I’m running errands around the city or going for a night out, I want a bag that I don’t have to worry about. I carry only a few essential items – phone, AirPods, lip gloss, keys – so I don’t really need a big bag. I’ve had my eye on Bottega Veneta’s new camera bag for fall, as well as Alexander McQueen’s ‘The Curve’ bucket bag, which comes in a variety of fun colors. Another chic addition would be to accessorize your favorite cross-body bag with one of Loewe’s ‘Anagram’ bag straps.”
