Mix masculine and feminine elements

“I’d describe my style as classic, minimal and modern. I like to play with silhouettes and combine menswear and womenswear. If I’m wearing baggy pants or an oversized blazer, I’ll balance it out by pairing it with a second-skin top and sculptural jewelry by Sophie Buhai, who I love. My look doesn’t change that much from day to night; I’ll usually elevate what I’m already wearing by swapping sneakers for kitten heels and adding statement earrings. I strictly reserve dresses for daytime, when I can dress them down, otherwise it feels a little too ‘done’ for me. My style doesn’t fit the typical LA mold, but one of the things I love about living here is that there is a sense of freedom in the way people dress.”

Dress for the occasion

“My grandmother still influences the way I dress. Her style was timeless and she was always dressed appropriately for wherever she was or whatever she was doing. I spent a lot of time sailing with her as a child, and she’d always be perfectly turned-out in beautiful white pants, a navy sweater and a silk scarf. She was so chic. She’d finish every outfit with feminine touches like gold jewelry and wear her hair slicked back in a bun and bow. But like myself, she actually veered more towards a masculine look. She lived in trousers and loafers as opposed to skirts and dresses. My grandfather had the same flair. He wore custom-made suits with personal touches, like his nickname embroidered on the lining. Great style isn’t about having a different outfit for every day, it’s about acquiring special pieces that mean something to you.”

Feel good to look good

“I gravitate towards simple, well-constructed pieces. My favorite designers are The Row and Rosetta Getty because their designs are elegant, and wearing them gives me a quiet confidence. However, I do like to add an element of fun, too. I just got a great blue leather jacket from Prada that I can’t wait to wear. My husband loves to surf, meaning we spend a lot of time by the ocean, so right now getting my beach kit right is a priority for me. I’ve picked up a couple of great Matteau swimsuits recently – I love its swimwear – and I think my next purchase will be a Loewe tote and some leather slides.”
