The micro trend: Bodysuits
Less ’80s aerobics uniform, more luxe athleisure essential – introducing SS18’s take on the bodysuit
Wear it for day
If you hear ‘bodysuit’ and shudder at the thought of something so unapologetically clingy, the runway is here to convince us otherwise. According to Isabel Marant and ultra-cool newcomer Kith, a bodysuit is the single most useful layering tool you can invest in this season. The modern way to wear it is under an oversized denim jacket (à la Marant), or layered beneath high-waisted, wide-leg trousers or track pants (thanks, Kith). Sheer fabrics are high on our wish list, too: a gauzy T-shirt over a body, tucked into vintage-cut jeans, is an easy off-duty update. Bestowing everyone with a sporty, just-out-of-SoulCycle air – at last! – this is a trend that gym-phobes and gym-class heroes can all agree on.
Wear it after dark
For after-hours, a bodysuit can be worn underneath a tailored blazer and palazzo pants. Seek out styles with lingerie details and lace trimmings for a seductive take on YSL’s classic Le Smoking silhouette. For summer nights, a silk midi skirt and a boldly printed bodysuit with flat sandals and simple hoop earrings is an effortless sunset-to-sunrise look.
