The Best Blouses To Wear This Season
The return of romantic silhouettes means that blouses are back, says COLLEEN ROSS. From floaty and ethereal to sleek and sophisticated, there’s no shortage of covetable styles to choose from this season…
There’s a feminine energy to SS25 that can be attributed to three of the season’s most talked-about trends: romanticism, retro elegance and boho 2.0. And while, stylistically speaking, their moods are very different, there is one garment they all have in common – and that is the blouse. Whether whimsical and romantic or demure and elegant, the quintessential design was seen on the SS25 runways in various guises – and it hasn’t taken the fashion set long to embrace it as a key trans-seasonal piece. At the recent fashion shows, blouses were styled with everything from casual denim to polished pencil skirts.
Of course, it would be remiss to write about blouses and not mention Chloé. They have been central to the Parisian house since 1952, when founder Gaby Aghion made the flou aesthetic her signature – a legacy continued first by Karl Lagerfeld, in the ’60s and ’70s, and most recently by creative director and fellow blouse enthusiast Chemena Kamali. In an interview with Vogue last year, the designer admitted to having more than 600 of them in her own collection – and presented a series of dreamy styles in floaty, diaphanous fabrics at her debut show. This pretty silk-georgette design is detailed with tiered broderie anglaise ruffles along the shoulders and has bow-tied blouson sleeves. Replicate the bohemian feel by styling yours with wide-leg jeans and platforms.
Alternatively, lean into the season’s love for artisanal details with Isabel Marant’s ‘Serena’ style. Cut from crisp cotton-poplin, it’s mapped with geometric crocheted trims and has a neat grandad collar. Style it with a floaty skirt on weekends and tailored pants for the office.

If you prefer a punchier print, you’ll find a kindred fashion spirit in Valentino Garavani’s Alessandro Michele – the designer loves to mix retro and ornamental motifs in his designs. The brand’s pretty blouse is made from linen and dappled with a cacophony of paisley swirls, medallions and flowers. For something mood-boosting, pull out all the stops with Carven’s satin piece – the sunset-orange hue will transform all your favorite workweek looks. Elsewhere, Saint Laurent’s ruffled version is cut from wispy silk-blend crepon flecked with gold fil coupé threads and is a sophisticated choice for day or night.
