The SS18 runways were full of big-day hair inspiration. Hairstylist MIGUEL PEREZ, the man behind Amal Clooney’s recent Royal wedding hair and Sisley Paris’ Hair Rituel Ambassador, reveals how to get these hairstyles looking great – and keep them that way. By CHANELLE HO

Simple city wedding

Accessories were the most beautiful hair trend on the SS18 runways. One of the easiest to imitate? Simone Rocha’s pearl and crystal slides, which elevated even simple styles to standout. “You can add one to anything – loose waves, a sleek ponytail or a bun – and it’s an easy look to maintain throughout the day,” says A-list hairstylist Miguel Perez. Keeping them in place is down to prep work: “If you have particularly fine hair that doesn’t hold accessories well, mist a texture spray over the top of your accessory throughout the day to keep it in place. Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray gives your hair control, grip and movement without making it stiff.”

This smooth wave is both classic and subtly sexy, and works especially well on long, thick hair. “You want to make sure there is no frizz or flyaways,” says Perez. “Always use a hair oil before styling – Sisley Paris Precious Hair Care Oil is a great heat protectant, and it closes the hair cuticles and smooths down any frizz.” You can also apply the oil lightly through the ends a couple of times during the day, and then twist to keep the curl – it won’t feel oily on dry hair or flatten your style.

Relocating the chignon to the side of the head, as seen at New York-based label Brock Collection, adds a softer, modern twist to a classic look. It’s a common misconception that up-dos won’t hold on thick, long or heavy hair: “This can work for anybody, no matter your hair type, as long as you use enough grips and texture spray to keep everything in place,” says Perez.

Beach wedding

The ribbon recently made a comeback and its unashamed prettiness makes it the perfect wedding accessory. Our favorite way to wear it? A pristine bow around a loose braid elevates beach wedding hair in an instant. “If your plait is loose and ‘undone’, then you want to make sure your ribbon is perfectly tied, otherwise your style will just look messy,” advises Perez. His other pro tip? “Always use hairspray on the braid to keep it all in place.”

Boho wedding

“This is a modern interpretation of a veil or tiara,” says Perez. “There are no rules when it comes to adding flowers in your hair – you can place them anywhere you want – but they look most romantic sitting behind the ears.” Flowers are not easy to maintain throughout the day, so the best way to keep them in place is by threading them through braids and securing with pins.
