Why These 3 Colors Should Be On Your Radar For Fall
Purple, red and chartreuse are the hottest colors of the season, explains COLLEEN ROSS. Read on for tips on how to wear them now
Purple
There’s no color more on point than royal purple this season. Although notoriously difficult to style, if anyone is up for the challenge it’s the street-style set, who made it the focal point of their outfits across fashion month. Take NET-A-PORTER’s buying manager, Lydia Zacharis, who wore a purple silk shirt with a floral-jacquard midi skirt to the shows, dialing the rest of her look down with black and tan accessories. Replicate her look with new-season pieces by Loewe, Alémais and Christen. As for color pairings, red and purple is still going strong, but it isn’t the only combination making an impact – yellow feels like a particularly fresh take. Try it yourself with &Daughter’s butter-yellow ‘Innes’ sweater and Alaïa’s ballet flats in crystal-embellished purple mesh.

Red
Red has become just as versatile as any neutral in the eyes of tastemakers, who are using it more as an accent than a standalone statement. Case in point? Alexa Chung, who paired a sequined skirt with a red button-down in Milan recently – or the countless editors who have draped red sweaters over everyday staples repeatedly since last spring. If you’ve already got a red knit in your wardrobe, take things up a notch with Aflalo’s satin wrap skirt, pairing it with Almada’s ‘Yara’ sweater in gray wool and cashmere-blend, and Khaite’s zebra-print ‘Lotus’ bag. Alternatively, try layering Willy Chavarria’s wool-twill shirt from the fall/winter ’26 runway beneath a suede coat from The Row.

Chartreuse
Chartreuse has been trending for a while, but the saturation we saw on the runways in spring has given way to a slightly darker, jewel tone for fall – one that feels suitably opulent for party season. Take cues from the fashion crowd and pair your favorite chartreuse pieces with black and gray to ensure it pops. Tibi’s ‘Grace’ pants, for example, look ultra-chic paired with Kallmeyer’s elegant ‘Tilda’ jacket and Khaite’s ‘Marlene’ pumps in smooth, black calf hair for work and any dinner plans you have afterwards. Alternatively, slip Alaïa’s paneled calf-hair coat over monochrome separates by Lisa Yang and Loewe for dressier events.
