Lindsay Ellingson’s party beauty routine
After jet-setting around the globe as a model for over 14 years, the Creative Director of Wander Beauty and former Victoria’s Secret Angel knows a thing or two about skin saviors. Here, she shares her secrets to surviving the party season
BEFORE THE PARTY
For gorgeous, glowing skin…
I shave my face…
…using a tool called the Dermaflash. If I have an event or party to go to, I’ll shave my face in the morning after exfoliating with Lancer’s Polish. It just makes your makeup look so much better and you have baby-soft skin. On top, I’ll put on the Wander Beauty Extended Stay Hydrating Mask to calm and soothe any irritation, then follow with the Glow Ahead Face Oil and an SPF moisturizer.
I usually do my own makeup…
…because I’ve learned so much from makeup artists over the years. My glam makeup inspiration is Brigitte Bardot; I love that ’60s vibe. I do a sexy, plum smoky eye with lots of smudged glossy black eyeliner and three coats of mascara. I keep my base natural and glowing and usually wear a nude lip. But don’t get me started on my hair – I’m so bad at doing it myself. In fact, I just cut 12 inches off.
If I’m showing off some skin…
…I always use a liquid highlighter mixed with body lotion or the True Botanicals Radiance Body Oil. The combination just makes your skin look beautiful. And I do a body scrub every week using coconut oil and fresh lavender oil to keep my skin soft and smooth.
In my purse…
…I make sure there’s a translucent powder in a compact. It absorbs any oil and is so good for touch-ups.
To get me in the party mood…
…I’ll listen to ’90s hip-hop. And I love having my girlfriends over to get ready; we set up a vanity mirror, turn on the music, put on eye masks and we take our time. It’s nice because most days I only have ten minutes to get ready.
AFTER THE PARTY
I always take my makeup off…
…even after a big night out. I use micellar water to remove everything, jump in the shower and use a cleansing oil, and then I use a hyaluronic serum and a face oil to lock it all in.
I listen to piano music…
…to wind down. I’m an introvert by nature so I love to be in a quiet place with [pianist] George Winston on in the background and a cup of tea. If I’m not at the party, I’m at home with my husband, Sean, and dog, Carly, watching a movie on the couch.
My SOS breakout beauty product…
…is a serum infused with CBD oil by my facialist Ildi Pekar. I swear by it – I sleep with it on overnight and it instantly calms any redness and inflammation.
Sleep is the best medicine…
…if you’re feeling burned out or your skin is having a meltdown, get a good eight or nine hours sleep; there’s nothing better. I cherish that time and sleep with a Slip silk pillowcase, an aromatherapy diffuser with lavender oil on my nightstand, and sometimes even listen to sleep meditation on the Headspace app.
The morning after a late night…
…I’ll either do a workout such as Pilates or hot yoga, or, if I feel really terrible, I’ll go to HigherDOSE in NYC. It’s an infrared sauna so you sweat out all the bad stuff without needing to exercise.
