If colorful Abstract paintings are the pieces that stop you in your tracks at an art gallery, then you’re going to love this season’s color-blocking trend. Artful expressions were seen all over the runways, with brands such as Loewe, Alaïa and Victoria Beckham offering a masterclass in mixing bright primary hues, from tomato red to Klein blue, like a modern-day Mondrian.

To nail the trend, a red dress is a great jumping off point – it’s so versatile and works with almost every other color. Ticking all the boxes, Toteme’s bestselling ‘Slouch Waist’ midi is cut from wool-crepe that drapes beautifully and is light enough to layer, too. When it comes to styling, look to Japanese brand Auralee, which proved red and yellow are the perfect pairing at its show in Paris. Commit to the combination with this pastel-yellow cashmere cardigan, which you could either drape over your shoulders or tie around the waist, and match your shoes to the dress. New to NET-A-PORTER, Jude is the footwear brand of the moment, making these ‘Date’ mules in lacquered red leather the perfect pick.

As for bags, Jil Sander’s ‘Linea’ bag in yellow has caught the eye of Gillian Brett, NET-A-PORTER’s head of fashion content. “I love everything that Simone Bellotti is doing at Jil Sander, and this bag is a perfect example of how he turns simple shapes into exceptional pieces. I’d style it with complementary colors such as chocolate brown or crisp white and add a pop of a primary color – such as a red neck scarf or socks – to subtly style out the trend.”

One of the coolest, most energetic takes on color blocking comes from Loewe. Creative directors Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez drew inspiration from artist Ellsworth Kelly – known for his Color Field paintings that play with bold and graphic shapes in bright hues – for their spring/summer 2026 collection. Patterned with multicolored vertical stripes, this tank top does all the hard work for you and pairs well with denim, leather and tailoring alike. Channel actor Tracee Ellis Ross, who wore a similar style with barrel-leg pants on the front row. As for accessories, reach for Loewe’s logo-detailed ‘Bilbao’ bucket bag or Manolo Blahnik’s ‘Larache’ mules in peridot-green suede.
