’70s redux

Fashion still can’t get enough of the ’70s. Ever since boho made a triumphant return to the runways last fall, there’s been a surge in demand for pieces inspired by the decade, from tan leather saddle bags, such as Gucci’s archival ‘Blondie’ style, to flowing, featherweight maxi dresses courtesy of Chloé and Saint Laurent. Arguably the easiest way to nail the look is with a camel jacket in leather or suede – a timely and timeless new-season investment. Chloé’s version combines a classic biker shape with Western-style fringing that makes it cool enough to wear with pretty much anything – as all of the decade’s most iconic front women, from Stevie Nicks to Tina Turner and Joni Mitchell, all proved. Wear yours with Slvrlake’s wide-leg ‘Cassie’ jeans from our NET SUSTAIN edit and a romantic blouse. Guaranteed to add polish to any outfit, Toteme’s black leather bucket bag is the shape of the season, and another NET SUSTAIN highlight.

En-pointe ballet flats

If one shoe dominated 2024, it was the ballet flat – and thanks to its reappearance on the SS25 runways, its reign is set to continue this year. From the brand’s Resort ’25 collection, Gucci’s monogrammed canvas flats have square toes – a nod to traditional pointe shoes – and iconic horsebit hardware that fans of the brand love. Wear them now through to spring with jeans, tailoring and dresses alike. For a pair you can wear from the office to evening events, look to Christian Louboutin’s ‘Mamastrapitina’ flats. Exclusive to NET-A-PORTER, they’re crafted from lustrous satin with ’60s-style buckles and sweet bows. Elsewhere, Aeyde’s ‘Uma’ flats come in neutral snake-effect leather that works perfectly with denim.

Cult slogan tees

Easily the coolest item to own this season is a slogan tee. Since the 1960s, this graphic style has become a sartorial means of making a statement. Loewe is no stranger to a viral fashion moment (who could forget that ‘I Told Ya’ T-shirt from last spring?), and the brand’s ‘Holywood’ tee is sure to sell out just as fast, having been worn by campaign star Taylor Russell to the SS25 show back in September. Elsewhere, editors and influencers alike are going bananas for Chloé’s cotton-jersey T-shirt – Chemena Kamali reprised the label’s iconic yellow-fruit motif from the early 2000s for her Resort ’25 collection – and now everyone wants a taste.

Retro runners

Although retro sneakers have been around for a while, this season’s cohort has reignited our obsession with ’70s track styles. Take Dries Van Noten’s sneakers, for example, which are crafted from soft white leather with sporty gray suede trims and slim rubber soles – their sleek design made them an instant bestseller. Elsewhere, Chloé’s ‘Kick’ style combines the agility of a boxing shoe with the softness of ballet slippers and looks great with dresses. Regardless of whether you’re into sports, Adidas Originals’ ‘Japan H’ sneakers will have everyone fooled – they have a distinctive high-top silhouette inspired by wrestling boots and the brand’s iconic three stripes decorating the sides.

Vintage elegance

‘Soft power’ is the overarching theme of spring ’25, with designers exploring the full spectrum of femininity in their collections. For every delicately draped dress or romantic embellishment, there was an impeccably tailored suit or jacket to restore the balance. One of our favorites this season, Tove’s ‘Aster’ blazer has a collarless neckline and a nipped-in waist to accentuate your frame. It looks especially chic styled with a flowing maxi skirt and flats for dinner dates or a night at the theater. Elsewhere, Veronica de Piante’s ‘Maeve’ jacket comes in a neatly cropped shape with structured shoulders and military-inspired buttons. Wear yours with straight-leg jeans and slingbacks – Valentino Garavani’s ‘Bepointy’ pair are topped with bows and the brand’s gilded logo.
