Trending Now: Red & Purple

Fashion has a new power pairing. Bright cherry and deep eggplant are this season’s most unexpected and exciting color combination. Read on to discover four ways to wear red and purple now

Red and purple appeared on the runway at Willy Chavarria’s fall 2026 show, and in the collections of NET-A-PORTER Vanguard designer Colleen Allen

In the mood to be a little more daring with color? Make it a double. Red, of course, is hardly a newcomer. After several seasons in the spotlight – from tomato to cherry and burgundy – its hold on our wardrobes shows little sign of loosening. Purple, meanwhile, has been quietly creeping back into the color conversation. After first appearing on the spring/summer 2026 runways, the pairing is continuing into fall/winter, with scarlet meeting violet and raspberry worn alongside grape. Unexpected? Perhaps. But together, they pack twice the punch.

Double up on color

If you’re going to color-block, commit to it. Rather than treating one shade as an accent, give red and purple equal billing, like A-listers Michaela Coel and Zoey Deutch. Take cues from the street-style set and play with proportion, too – an oversized knit against a fluid skirt can make blocks of saturated color feel even more considered. Try styling Flore Flore’s purple polo shirt with Aflalo’s red ‘Rixa’ satin wrap skirt; the contrast of soft cashmere and lustrous satin adds another dimension to the color pairing. Black heels and silver jewelry will ground the look without diluting its impact.

Brighten up your workwear

Give your working wardrobe a color refresh by bringing red and purple into the mix. Here, it’s less about going head-to-toe and more about using hits of color to lift darker tailoring. Black, charcoal and gray give brighter shades room to stand out without competing for attention. Try Róhe’s red wool jacket with dark-gray tailored pants, then introduce purple with Alaïa’s signature mesh flats, keeping the rest of your accessories neutral.

The bolder, the better

For a maximalist take, don’t stop at color – introduce print into the equation, too. Animal prints work particularly well here, acting almost as a neutral against saturated shades. Mix a wilder pattern with purple and red in the same look by tucking Alessandra Rich’s purple blouse into Stouls’ leopard-print ‘Winona’ midi skirt and adding Khaite’s red ‘Olivia’ shoulder bag. This is one occasion where restraint is entirely optional.

This color combination will sharpen workwear-wardrobe essentials, too
Take your cue from Michaela Coel and wear this power pairing after dark

Shine after dark

Come evening, red and purple take on an altogether richer mood. Add light-catching fabrics and finishes – satin, crystals and glossy accessories – and candy-bright shades will suddenly feel more precious. Think less candy store, more ruby and amethyst. Take Alaïa’s red maxi dress and punctuate the block color with the house’s purple heels, finishing with a pair of statement earrings. When the dress code calls for drama, two jewel tones are better than one.
