A Royal pledge to save the world’s oceans
PORTER’s partnership with ocean activists Parley wins Royal approval
Against the backdrop of legendary photographer Mario Sorrenti’s incredible pictures of supermodel and sea nymph Anja Rubik, and alongside prototypes of Parley’s pioneering collaboration with Adidas, Their Royal Highnesses Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall were keen to learn about PORTER’s oceans project from Editor-in-Chief Lucy Yeomans at NET-A-PORTER’s London HQ. Launching its most ambitious campaign to date, PORTER is working with environmental game changers Parley to call for urgent action to help protect our oceans, specifically looking at the issue of marine plastic pollution.
As part of a global initiative, the latest print issue – created in collaboration with Parley and guest editor Rubik – echoes HRH Prince Charles’ recent speech at The British Academy in London about how we all need to make an effort to protect our blue planet and raise awareness of the current dangers: “A good start has, I think, been made. The matter of plastic debris in the environment, in particular the ocean, is now on the agenda,” said His Royal Highness. “We do, however, need to keep it there, this is the key. The nightmare result of eight million tonnes of plastic entering the Ocean every year is set to get worse rather than better. We cannot, indeed must not, allow this situation to continue.”
Add your voice and actions to the campaign by making a pledge to give up using one unnecessary item of plastic, such as straws, carrier bags or plastic-containing tea bags, and sharing it on social media to spread the word and inspire others to do the same. Tag us at @portermagazine and @parley.tv so that we can support you and share your pledges.
