IN THE MORNING

I wake up around 5am…

…and the first thing I do is read The New York Times online to see what’s going on. Then I do a 45-minute Peloton class in my basement – it’s a tremendous stress reliever. Before I get in the shower, I dry brush; it’s amazing for skin elasticity and cellulite – I’ve been doing it for years and the skin on my body looks pristine.

I wash my face with…

…the camomile and coconut Cloud Bar from my skincare range, which is a very soothing face wash, before using my Daily Hydrating Cream, which contains avocado oil. Then I’ll apply my makeup; I’m in love with the Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint, as it has color as well as squalene for hydration, so it keeps my skin feeling moisturized all day, which is not something I’ve found with other foundations. I always use Eyeko mascaras – I am obsessed with them. I use the lengthening Lash Alert Mascara first, then the Sport Waterproof Mascara on top to seal it – this means I don’t have to check under my eyes, as I know it won’t smudge during the day. If I want to look a bit more ‘done’, I like RMS Beauty Cream Eye Polish.

I recently changed to a plant-based diet…

…and I already have more energy and have lost weight. I used to feel like I needed coffee throughout the day, but now I’ve stopped drinking it. After we watched The Game Changers on Netflix, my husband and I tried going plant-based and it’s been amazing. I do a prebiotic morning shake for my breakfast using Morning Complete by ActivatedYou with spinach, kale, a handful of berries and almond milk. I don’t do fasting because I start my day so early. Plus, I have to be focused because my seven-year-old daughter is into fashion, so there’s usually a fashion crisis to deal with. She currently has a Gucci obsession and, although she doesn’t need glasses, she already has six different frames she likes to wear. If I’m not on hand for her ‘fashion of the day’, things can go downhill.

When my skin is stressed…

…I do a mini facial, starting with my Exfoliating Mask with pineapple and lactic acid to brighten my skin, followed by the Twilight Mask. While the mask is on, I work on the pressure points around my eyes to open them up and get the lymph going. Then, when I’ve taken the mask off, I give myself a face massage. At-home massage can be very easy; I always say go upwards, then outwards, and use medium pressure so you feel some friction on the skin but not so much that it goes red.

The person who has helped me most is…

…Dr Frank Lipman in New York – he is a great health manager. I have his vitamin IV drips when I need them, and I see his chiropractor for fascia (connective tissue) relief, as I have back problems from being hunched over in a chair all day.

My grandmother gave me the best advice…

She said, “We are the most beautiful when being whoever we are.” I didn’t always appreciate that advice when I was a teenager, but it has informed how I treat clients – my job is making people feel good as they are. I’m Mexican and grew up looking at the ultimate Californian blondes, knowing I could never be like them, so thank goodness this modern world is more about being inclusive.

IN THE EVENING

I do hot yoga after work to de-stress…

…then I take an amazing bath with lavender and Epsom salts. If it’s spring and the allergy season, I add camomile tea to the bath for my itchy skin. Camomile is a Latin American fix-it-all – we use it for everything from calming rashes to decongesting a cold.

When I’m going out I always use…

…face mist over my makeup, to rehydrate and freshen up my skin. I’ll also add some Eyeko eyeliner so there’s a little more makeup on the eye, but my big day-to-evening transition is a different pair of shoes.

I have honed the perfect jet-lag regimen…

…because before lockdown, I used to travel a lot. For long-haul flights, I always use Sleep Vites by Dr Price, a mineral-based powder with a tiny bit of melatonin. I also never skip a day of hot yoga, which really relaxes my muscles and helps me get to sleep. If I am flying, it also helps to ‘depuff’ me after a flight, so I make sure I know where all the best hot-yoga studios are in every city I visit.

I use my Revitalizing Eye Cream around my mouth…

…and on my neck and eyes, and I use my Super Nova Retinol Treatment Serum every night. My night-time skincare routine is about feeling good, and I love using the Christian Dior Sakura body cream; it smells of cherry blossom, which reminds me of my grandmother and gives me a cozy feeling.

The best way to get to sleep…

…is to read. I love a good autobiography and I recently re-read Patti Smith’s – it’s such a beautifully written book. Also, I don’t have any electronics in the bedroom – they are the worst thing for keeping you awake.

On my bedside table, I have…

…my jewelry box, a hand cream, a lip balm and a book.
