Feel Free With Versace’s Spring/Summer Collection

With a nostalgic nod to the ’90s, Donatella Versace celebrates a hopeful new energy – and a playful sense of freedom – for the season ahead

The spring 1997 Versus show was Donatella Versace’s inspiration for Versace’s latest collection. At that moment in time, Versus, was her baby – a playful diffusion collection she designed in her own playful spirit, to live as a little-sister collection alongside her brother Gianni’s more grown-up designs. Revisiting the spirit of that collection, in the setting of Milan’s Castello Sforzesco on a balmy October night, editors were reminded of the energy of that era. At the core of the collection is the thrumming heart of the ’90s – a collective feeling of sartorial freedom.

Spring is more than just a closet changeover, more than a switch in fabrications and color palettes. To move from winter to spring is a ritual shedding: one that leaves the dark and cold behind and embraces the hopefulness of the days ahead. It is that feeling of hope that is so obviously embedded into Versace’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection; it presents a fresher and freer spirit for the season ahead.

While the clashing floral prints in varying shades of sunshine yellow, cornflower blue and woody browns, and playful pattered knots might be a direct reference from that Versus collection of a bygone era, the latter-day version saw those motifs reinvented for a modern audience – and a modern woman. Employing state-of-the-art technology to execute the femininity of the collection, Versace corsetry is crafted in 3-D printed recycled nylon polymers that create a seamless and zero-waste form, folded to the exact contour of the body. Meanwhile, the poppy pattern morphs into 3-D form in a technical cloqué-effect jacquard, as seen in the outwear, tailoring and sportswear. In other words, there is a lot more than meets the eye with this new Versace collection – an alluring ethos that will be mirrored by the woman who wears it.

There is a variety of fun and freedom to be found in this Versace collection – for those who are hopeful for the days ahead

Whether you’re stepping into spring with a bold approach, wanting a more-is-more approach to the season ahead (via skin-baring dresses, sunshine-ready hemlines and vibrant colors and prints) or taking a more subversive route through considered denim, nuanced metallics and tactile outerwear, there is a variety of fun and freedom to be found in this Versace collection – with a sense of hope for the days ahead.

This Versace woman has been considered by what freedom means to her – and, according to this collection, that feeling is innately joyful. Freedom – under this meticulous lens – means sumptuous fabrics that celebrate the female form, smart denim for any occasion, flashes of skin ready to be kissed by the sun, clashing patterns that bring a vibrancy to any look, and outerwear that protects and elevates in a directional way.
