How I pack, by Gala González

Hailing from the sunny town of A Coruña in northern Spain, GALA GONZÁLEZ was destined to have pitch-perfect summer style. Her secret? “I’m definitely not one of those people who packs things I don’t need – being efficient is a quality that I cherish,” she says. Ahead of jetting off to Porto Heli on Greece’s Peloponnese coast, she shares her tips for a low-key-luxe approach to vacation dressing

Fashion

Pack light, pack smart

“Whenever I’m traveling, I always try to optimize my suitcase space. I believe you don’t need more than the standard baggage allowance. It’s all about coordinating outfits, mixing tops with skirts and jeans so that you can create as many looks as possible with a small amount of clothes. Of course, there’s also the business of swimwear; it has its own rules because you can pack as much as you want – in my opinion you can never have too many bikinis. Overall, I choose items that aren’t going to be too heavy, are easy to fold and iron, and that color-coordinate with the rest of my suitcase.”

DRESS TO IMPRESS
A mini dress with comfortable, dance-floor-ready shoes is González’s vacation go-to

Choose versatile pieces

“I pretty much like to wear the same things during the day as on a night out. By day, I wear jeans or a mini dress with comfortable shoes that will allow me to dance later on. I’m in love with the printed Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza dress – it’s the perfect 24/7 dress to wear for a beachside meal at 1pm and then to some golden-hour cocktails with friends. I also couldn’t travel without my Zimmermann strapless dress. It adds a cool, sexy touch to my vacation wardrobe and is super-easy to pack as it’s so light. Staud shoes were also one of my must-haves on this trip, with their avant-garde design and a perfect heel height that goes with any look.”

Commit to a color palette

“I’m obsessed with earthy colors, and I think white brings a breath of fresh air to a summer wardrobe – a white tee can be your best secret weapon while on vacation. I try to pack jeans, dresses and jumpers within the same shades so that they blend together in an elegant and sophisticated way.”

MUST-PACK BUYS

Checklist the essentials

“I never feel fully dressed without a linen blazer on vacation, and I always make sure I have my watch, wallet and a little cashmere sweater for the plane. When it comes to skincare, I take my Augustinus Bader moisturizer all around the world, and I couldn’t travel without my Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips lipstick – I love to use it as blusher on my cheeks and on my eyelids for an extra-glossy shine. The 111 Skin face masks are great for refreshing your skin before you get off a long-distance flight. And finally, I always pack the Joanna Czech Facial Massager, which I keep in the fridge and put in my bag just before going to the airport.”
