Cleansing at night is crucial

“Maintaining a simple yet robust nighttime routine is essential to unlocking healthy skin, because this is the time when your skin can fully renew, away from daytime irritants,” says Tarmey, who stresses that few skincare steps are as important as a nighttime cleanse. Cleansing the skin from the many daily environmental stressors, such as pollution, allows active ingredients to be more efficiently absorbed. Then, giving skin the necessary ingredients to fuel nourishment is what will really deliver that visible overnight transformation.” If, however, you do go to bed with your makeup on this festive season, don’t stress. “It isn’t ideal, but I’m a firm believer of the ‘everything in moderation’ mindset, so a few accidental mishaps in your routine aren’t worth worrying about,” affirms Tarmey.

Keep exfoliation light

“Exfoliation is brilliant for clarifying and brightening the skin, but it should always be gentle,” says Tarmey. “It’s not about physically scrubbing away at the skin – instead, you want to use good-quality ingredients to remove the dead skin cells that clog the surface and can cause breakouts, acne and dullness. After many years of delivering my signature facials to clients, which include a light peel or exfoliation – including for red-carpet appearances – I found that lactic acid is a brilliant ingredient to achieve visibly clearer, brighter skin without irritation. So, I formulated my very own TT Lactic Acid, which is at the most optimal potency for truly effective results, whilst remaining gentle.”

The right ingredients make a big difference

“Choosing the right ingredients is the most crucial step of establishing a healthy skin routine, and it’s all about quality over quantity to deliver the essential benefits,” says Tarmey. “From treating skin over so many years, I’ve learnt that the right concoction of powerful ingredients can deliver truly transformative results, and in the case of my new Anti+ Serum, it’s the mix of a prebiotic, a high concentration of antioxidants and a blend of peptides that delivers genuine anti-aging and hydrating benefits to the skin.” If sensitive, dry or irritated skin is your woe, Tarmey suggests allantoin. “It’s a brilliant ingredient. It soothes the skin from any irritation and is also used as an effective wound-healer.”

It’s what you don’t do that matters most

“I always say that knowing what not to do with your skin is just as crucial as understanding what to do,” stresses Tarmey. “The biggest mistake you can make is overtreating the skin and overusing an abundance of different products, as they haven’t all been formulated to work well together. With all the information and options out there, it’s really easy to fall into the trap of overtreating the skin, but in reality, less is more.”

The facial treatments to try

If you’ve got six weeks or more…

“I’m the biggest fan of fractional radio frequency, and, if time and budget allow, I would recommend a course of four, four to six weeks apart. It’s incredible for texture, pore size, scarring, brightening and is suitable for all skin types. My second choice would be to do a course of FaceStim [a mix of radiofrequency and muscle-stimulating technology] for lifting and sculpting the skin. I’d recommend this once per week for six weeks.”

If you’ve got one week…

“At-home microneedling is a real skin saviour, too,” says Tarmey. “Having suffered with acne in the past, I turned to microneedling, and it truly transformed my skin, which is why I created my very own microneedling kit, designed for safe use at home. By creating tiny micro-injuries to the skin with the dermaroller, you are essentially tricking your skin into triggering the repair process, which promotes skin renewal and collagen production. The highly potent peptides are then delivered into the skin via a quick yet considered massage technique. You can immediately see the difference in brightness and radiance.”

What you do reflects on your skin

“Taking care of your skin encompasses your entire being, so we should always strive for lifestyle choices that also reflect our desired skin health – it’s all linked,” says Tarmey. “So, to achieve truly glowing, event-ready skin, it’s incredibly important to take care of your general wellness, such as a balanced diet, good-quality sleep and a healthy amount of exercise.” While it’s easier said than done during the party-season circuit, make it an 80/20 rule when it comes to sticking to these good-skin lifestyle hacks.
