As New York Fashion Week kicks off, one of the hottest tickets in town – Proenza Schouler’s fall/winter ’24 show – takes place at midday on Saturday. Excitement levels are ultra-high following the label’s hit spring/summer ’24 presentation, where Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez delivered a series of sleek, finely tuned signatures. Minimalist blazers, beautifully cut pants and dream dresses in cool, monochromatic tones all came thick and fast, to the delight of the audience.

As well as the immaculate tailoring, the duo’s leather looks caught the eye of NET-A-PORTER’s acting head of fashion content Chloe Street. “I spied Proenza Schouler’s boxy, pocket-front ‘Roos’ leather jacket at the SS24 show, where it was styled with a leather knee-length skirt for a look that was utilitarian but still super-elevated,” she says, adding that it’s just the thing to slip into when attending New York Fashion Week. “It’s the perfect piece: warm enough for running from show to show, but not so bulky that you need disrobe once you get to your seat,” she explains.

When it comes to putting a look worthy of NYFW together, Street eschews anything too bold in favor of luxe wardrobe classics in chic neutrals. “I’d throw my leather jacket over a crisp white shirt – the relaxed silhouette of The Row’s ‘Sisilia’ cotton-poplin style oozes nonchalance – tucked into beige wide-leg pants such as Nili Lotan’s ‘Johan’ pair,” she shares. “Finish with a brown snake-print belt to keep things interesting,” she says, suggesting Déhanche and Nili Lotan as go-to labels.

“By day, I’d style this look with a pair of chic, practical ballet flats – mesh styles are the latest spin on the trend, and Khaite’s crystal-embellished ‘Marcy’ pair are about as cool as they come,” reveals Street. A large tote, such as The Row’s ‘Idaho XL’, is just the thing to fill with “show notes, layers, snacks – and some sharp black sunglasses,” she says, noting that this last item is a fashion-week essential. Echoing the ’90s-nostalgia trend, Tom Ford Eyewear’s ‘Alejandro’ shades have a narrow shape and instantly recognizable ‘T’s at the temples. “The beauty of this outfit is that it easily transitions to evening with the addition of some chunky gold bling from New York label Foundrae and a more dainty bag,” says Street. “Brown accessories are a focus for spring/summer ’24, and Manolo Blahnik’s ‘Maysale 50’ kitten heels in tan are a timeless classic you’ll wear for years to come.”

One last thing that no fashion editor would ever leave home without when packing for a whirlwind season of shows? Rejuvenating skincare. “Fashion-month travel can wreak havoc on your skin, so a good moisturizer is key,” says Street. “The High Performance Face Cream from Macrene Actives is a godsend – I apply it morning and night, and also use it as an in-flight mask when traveling long-haul.”
