In 1966, Paco Rabanne presented a collection entitled ‘12 Unwearable Dresses In Contemporary Materials’ when making his iconic couture debut in Paris at Hotel George V. Today, the brand is flipping that infamous manifesto on its head with minis, midis and maxis that are infinitely wearable.
Sensuality is the theme of Rabanne’s SS24 collection, which translates as slinky dresses in elegant hues. Proving that chocolate brown is going nowhere, the brand’s satin maxi dress in this trending yet timeless shade subtly nods to the founder’s futuristic chainmail designs, with metallic copper undertones and gleaming circular hardware.

“Rabanne’s gorgeous maxi has resolved my hunt for a party dress that I can wear again and again this summer,” says NET-A-PORTER’s junior fashion editor Kristen Neillie, who plans to slip it on for weddings, garden parties and special soirées over the coming months. “I particularly love how the metal embellishments lend a sophisticated edge,” she adds.
“For quick, effortless and fail-safe styling, I would grab the buttery beige version of Loewe’s ‘Flamenco’ clutch to pair with it,” shares Neillie. “I am obsessed with everything about this bag – from the beautiful leather to the glossy gold chain, and how it has space to hold everything I need,” she says, dubbing the design from Jonathan Anderson’s coveted accessory family as “divine”.

When the occasion calls for turning the styling dial up a notch, Neillie intends to try out one of the more playful color combinations spotted at the SS24 shows. “For an on-trend match that’s really of-the-moment, I would team the brown dress with a red bag, such as Jil Sander’s cross-body,” she reveals. “It was such a hot color on the spring/summer ’24 runways, especially in deeper tones like burgundy and oxblood,” she adds.
“To finish, I would reach for what is set to be another perfect addition to my summer wardrobe: the ‘1969’ sunglasses from the Oliver Peoples x Khaite collaboration,” says Neillie. From the capsule of vintage-inspired designs, the oval frames strike the perfect balance between understated and glamorous in tortoiseshell acetate. Complement them with a pair of dainty but dazzling hoop earrings. Anita Ko’s 18-karat-gold huggies have a sharp, contemporary shape and pavé diamonds that twinkle from every angle.
