With Lunar New Year right around the corner, select brands are celebrating the holiday season with exclusive product launches that incorporate 2022’s zodiac animal, the tiger. For NET-A-PORTER picture editor Maria Lo, it was the combination of playful symbolism and versatility that drew her attention to Gucci’s joyous printed tee – a hero piece from the brand’s Lunar New Year capsule – when it dropped onsite this week.
“Those born in the Year of the Tiger are said to be brave, unpredictable and confident – and I can’t think of a house that better showcases those qualities than legendary fashion label Gucci. I love that the brand’s signature red and green hues dovetail so beautifully with the symbolism of Lunar New Year. Traditionally, red represents happiness and good fortune, while green is the color of health and healing – a powerful combination by any measure. I’ll be styling this chic (and hopefully auspicious) tee with everything from oversized trousers to track pants and denim cut-offs. It might have been designed to celebrate Lunar New Year, but this graphic piece has year-round appeal.”
New beginnings are front of mind across the fashion industry right now. Patou – the storied French fashion house originally founded in 1914 by couturier Jean Patou, and revived by creative director Guillaume Henry in 2019 – is known for delivering high-octane pieces and dramatic silhouettes, but has now made a masterful foray into denim, too. With its exquisite cut and contrasting hem, the label’s ‘Iconic’ jeans more than live up to that name. Meanwhile, cult footwear designer Amina Muaddi has been experimenting with a classic style, debuting crystal-embellished patent Mary-Jane pumps with the power to elevate any outfit.
For more bijou accessories, Simone Rocha’s crystal hair slides and Jacquemus’ sought-after ‘Le Chiquito’ handbag are both dropping onsite again this week, so there’s never been a better time to add these seminal pieces to your collection.
