Get to know the tastes and styling tips of NET-A-PORTER’s Personal Shoppers as they reveal what’s on their wish list this season – and how they will be wearing their picks. Here, Kerrin, who works across Europe, divulges her most-wanted pieces
Developing a close relationship with a client is like building a friendship. It starts with small talk and goes from there until you really get to know them on a personal level. Over time, you get to know their life – interests, job, hobbies, travel plans, and even their family – inside out. Truly knowing a client helps me serve them so much better. At the start of the pandemic, a lot of my days were spent chatting with clients about how they were coping with lockdown and home schooling. The power of human connection is my most significant takeaway from my time as a personal shopper.
My personal style has evolved quite a lot over the years, but I would describe it today as Parisian-chic meets New York-cool. My wardrobe is full of classic pieces and basics (like oversized shirts, cashmere sweaters, high-waisted pants, and denim) that can be mixed and matched throughout the seasons. To add personality, I will incorporate colorful statement pieces or of-the-moment accessories. When it comes to tailoring, I find inspiration in men’s suiting. My perfect outfit would have to be a turtleneck worn under an open button-down shirt, paired with high-waisted pants and gold jewelry.
Ultimately, I’ll never cease to be inspired by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s take on ’90s style, as well as ’60s and ’70s style icons including Françoise Hardy and Jane Birkin. The way they combined elegance and effortlessness in every look is something I aspire to.
LAYERED NECKLACES
Layering necklaces is a great way to make a subtle statement. I love purchasing new necklaces to mark significant moments in my life. I often find myself wearing several ‘milestone’ necklaces at any given time, all of which have a special significance to me. Mixing various lengths is key to pulling off this trend. From fine chains to pendants and chunky gold chokers, there are tons of options to play with. I think it looks particularly elevated if you add an emerald, sapphire or any colored stone into the mix. Brands I adore include Marlo Laz, Retrouvai, Foundrae, Viltier and Brent Neale. They are all can’t-go-wrong, cool-girl labels that I love for necklaces.
A STATEMENT COAT
I love how a great coat can elevate any outfit. I might be wearing my ‘uniform’ of classic basics, but adding a fabulous coat on top instantly adds personality to my look. I always try to incorporate length into my outfits – whether it be in the form of a long trench in the fall, a three-quarter-length coat in winter, a sleeveless maxi vest in the spring, or a silk kimono in summer. I can always count on Gabriela Hearst, The Row, Loewe and Totême for great coats. I have a large armoire just for my coats, with each of the four seasons having their own section. For me, an outfit just doesn’t feel finished without that final layer.
CASHMERE KNITWEAR
No fabric feels as luxurious as cashmere. A cashmere knit is a timeless essential every woman should have in her wardrobe. In my opinion, the best cashmere brands to invest in are Khaite, Loulou Studio, Loro Piana, Arch4 and The Elder Statesman. Cashmere can be thrown on at home, paired with smart pants for the office, or thrown over a silk slip dress for cocktails and dinner. A simple yet luxurious knit can effortlessly pull any look together. My top tip when it comes to cashmere after-care is to surround your sweaters with lavender sachets or cedar wood in your wardrobe. The last thing you want are holes from pesky moths!
