IN THE MORNING

As soon as I wake up…

…I video-call my husband. We recently got married, but he’s based in Senegal and I’m in New York City, so we’re currently doing long-distance.

I do a morning ‘skin sweep’

[This involves] washing my face with cold water, doing a gentle cleanse using Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, then following with SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier Serum and Kora Organics Turmeric Glow Moisturizer. Without fail, I always use Paula’s Choice Resist Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF50, too, which is super-lightweight and absorbs beautifully.

I’ve always been a shower girl…

…it’s difficult to find a good tub in New York apartments. I tend to use an oil in the shower and lock in all that hydration with either Flamingo Daily Moisturizing Lotion or raw shea butter. I also body brush every two weeks and use an apricot-loaded body scrub for maintenance.

I now do ‘Zoom’ makeup

It’s quick, easy and I don’t need more than five minutes to do it. I always start with my brows, to frame my face, using an Anastasia Beverly Hills product, then I apply my Ami Colé Skin-Enhancing Tint in Rich Two with a brush – it just looks better. If I still look sleepy, I [finish with] Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Cacao.

I’m experimenting with a ’90s-inspired lip at the moment…

…using a liner and a stick combination with gloss – I like MAC Lip Pencil in Chestnut and Dior Addict Lip Maximizer, but I always finish any look with my Ami Colé Lip Treatment Oil.

If I’m having a ‘bad’ face day…

…I fix it with makeup and accessories. I’ll double up on concealer or go one shade lighter – then, if I need more help, I’ll wear a bold turban or throw on some reading glasses to take the focus off my face.

I travel back and forth between Senegal and New York, so I always carry a vitamin C spray

I used to spray water [on my skin] mid-flight, but it dried out my complexion. Now, I use Fresh Vitamin Nectar Antioxidant Face Mist, which is a liquid serum-mist hybrid that stops my skin from drying out. As soon as I land, I also wash my face and apply Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum.

IN THE EVENING

As a Muslim, I fast for Ramadan, but I also like to do smaller fasts throughout the year

It’s the best reset, particularly after traveling so much. My diet is so different in Senegal – it tends to be starch-heavy, with lots of fried seafood – whereas in New York, I stick to juices and salads. When I break any fast, I always make sure I have a balanced meal [in the evening], with coconut water to replenish my salts.

My self-care nights are a full-on production

My new apartment has a tub in it, and I’m obsessed with Pursoma bath salts, which really do ease my body. I always follow with a mask and use my facial steamer.

Lashes are my thing

For me, mascara just doesn’t cut it. I’ve started to experiment more with liner, and love wearing bold or neon colors, such as cobalt, teal and even yellow.

I’m a hair chameleon…

…and my wigs are the final touch to each outfit. My current favorite is a curly bob with bangs.

I have acupuncture once a month

It’s been truly life-changing, and has helped me with my gut, fertility and overall alignment.

When I’m wired but tired…

…I use the Calm app and white noise; I have the rainforest soundtrack playing throughout the night – it’s my little way of trying to escape and find peace in the middle of New York City. I also regulate my room temperature and always drop it cooler, which helps me sleep.

The best advice I’ve been given…

…was from my dad. He’s always been a believer in that there are seasons for a reason, and you have to strive to have good moments in the down times, too – I apply this to love, marriage, friendships and work.

My schedule is what keeps me awake most nights

Operating as a remote CEO during the pandemic has definitely had its challenges!
