If you want getting dressed in the morning to be as effortless as possible, you need to fill your closet with pieces that you can throw on without too much thought. Which is just one of the reasons why the runway resurgence of pant suits is worth embracing. The other is that they look truly great on everyone; elegant, sophisticated and ripe for styling in whichever way suits your mood and taste. And, thanks to the fact that everyone from Acne Studios to Emilia Wickstead has riffed on the two-piece for SS18, there’s a multitude for you to choose from.
Of course, you could keep things classically cool with a relaxed-fit suit in gray or black, herringbone or check. But it’s the start of the new season and there’s no better time to try something fresh. Start with color: pastels are infiltrating every possible trend right now and, while every shade is worth considering, lavender has replaced pink as the style insider’s favorite. Try pairing yours with a white shirt for a fresh summer take, or follow Joseph’s lead and wear it with a shirt in the same tone. Then there’s the white suit, preferably double-breasted and louche. Alternatively, you can take the retro approach via the horse-emblazoned velvet suits that popped up in Natacha Ramsay Levi’s debut collection for Chloé. Richly toned in a skinny fit, you’ll want to wear them with an unbuttoned shirt by day and barely anything else for evening. If you’re really feeling daring you can swap out your pants altogether for tailored shorts à la Tibi, but that’s a different story…
Shoe-wise, there are no rules here, but we suggest cowboy boots for a tough, of-the-moment finish, and chunky sandals or fluffy slides when the weather permits.
