The best new beauty buys to try now
The latest, greatest products worth investing in – tried and tested by PORTER’s beauty desk
The multi-purpose balm for summer
Can one product really do it all? That’s the premise of Tri-Balm, a cleanser, moisturizer and exfoliator in one, making it my new favorite travel companion. Just twist and rub on to palms or directly on to the face and, as it melts, so does makeup, including waterproof mascara and heavy foundation. The result? Skincare that’s simplified. DF
The Korean brand you need to know
When it comes to beauty innovations, all eyes are firmly fixed on Korea. So when the new luxury Korean skincare brand Femmue hit the PORTER beauty desk, we were excited. Marrying natural and botanical ingredients (not the first thing you think of with K-Beauty) with luxurious textures, Femmue’s products offer high-powered flower therapy. And its Dream Glow Masks have become a firm favorite, particularly helpful for hydrating skin when traveling. DF
The lip gloss to covet
Call it the lip-gloss renaissance. This season, bright, glossy, notice-me lips are everywhere, with many of them starting with Christian Louboutin Beauty’s LoubiGlitterGloss. Not for the color-shy, these high-octane glosses are flecked with glitter and rich pigment, so I found one coat of Marimalus, the coral-pink shade, was all I needed. DF
The complexion-perfecting palette
The moment this sleek little palette landed on my desk it went straight into my makeup bag, and it’s remained there ever since, replacing a face powder, skin balm and highlighter. Half the size of a cell phone, the Make Beauty Custom Finish Effects palette contains a matte balm and a glossy one, letting you take down unwanted shine while adding a shimmer- and color-free highlight where wanted. Just blend it with a finger for easy, instantly great-looking skin. Newby Hands
The post-sun skin saver
I always think after-sun is a hugely underrated beauty essential: packed with antioxidants, anti-inflammatory ingredients and super-hydrators, it repairs, soothes and treats like the best anti-aging skincare. Far more than just a body moisturizer, they are an essential for anyone who likes to spend any time in the sun. For years I’ve used Institut Esthederm’s brilliant Tan Prolonging Body Lotion because, even after a few weeks of damaging and drying sun, sea salt and chlorine, if you use this every evening, you can return home with silky skin that’s in better condition than when you went on vacation. The at-home facial essential
Given all the face rollers, gua shas and microcurrent machines now littering our bathroom cabinets, the classic face steamer seems a little old-school compared to our new box of beauty tricks. But facialist Sarah Chapman’s multi-tasking Pro Hydro-Mist Steamer has made me a semi-professional at-home aesthetician. Yes, you can use it to steam-clean your pores with its nano-mist (think super-fine steam) but, even better, first apply an AHA peel (steam makes it work better) or, as Chapman suggests, use it with your sheet mask (your skin absorbs more) or cleanser to ensure you really lift off the day’s dirt, makeup and pollution.
